New chian = tick tick
I put a new SRAM pc48 chain on my bike last week and after doing less that 200 miles it as started to make ticking noise when I climb uphill out of the saddle, I have cleaned it and re-lubed it but to no avail,so I have put the old chain back on and now everything is quite again.
Can anything be done with this chain or is it knackered |
You've probably just got a stiff link. Run it through your fingers to look for a link that doesn't move freely, then you can bend it back and forth, or if need be lightly use a chain tool to loosen the stiff link.

You might have a stiff link. Pedal backwards slowly and watch the chain as it comes off the cassette; stiff links won't follow the contours of the cassette very well.
How worn was your old chain? If your chain has stretched significantly it could have worn the cassette down to the point where a new chain won't mate with the old cassette very well. |
+1 to kevin

if it's not a stiff link, the next likely cause is that your chain wa worn, and it caused wear to the teeth of your cassette.
The old chain and the cassette match up, so they work together, but the new chain doesn't hit the worn cassette well. May be time for a new cassette as well. (after you've checked the new chain for a stiff link.) |

Thanks for the replies guys I've just checked chain for stiff links but it's ok, I've had the cassette quite a while now so I think it's time to get a new one.
Thanks |
To add to the chorus (or maybe Ultegra) if there is not a stiff link then it is a worn out cassette.
