Peeing Outdoors = Sex Offender?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In Delaware, if you are caught urinating in public, you become a registered sex offender. Most other states will most likely only charge you with indecent exposure, if that.

What man doesn't like pissing outside? Got out in your back yard tonight and take a piss, and then get back to us.

So, do they encourage group bike centuries within Delaware. Maybe it is impossible to ride a century in Delaware, it being such a small state. I shall remember, should I ever ride thru Delaware, be within a pee's length of the border.

Obviously BF is no place to find legal advice on a topic such as this. Laws are different in different states and they are enforced differently too, sometimes by such random criteria as the color of your skin. Its not a new development (sex offender registration is relatively new), the last guy I knew who got busted for it was back during the Carter administration.

Yeah. Pee between the tubes of your bike, be quick about it, and be cool.

Or, if you are at a race, pee on your rear tire, to discourage people from tailing you too close. Wow, I can't believe I said that. Just kidding.

What are you talking about? I get all my legal advice on BF. I also don't bother watching the news. Reading these thereads keeps me totally up to date on all things I need to know.

now did you see me condoning pissing in the streets of NY? no, but stopping on a ride and pissing behind a tree or discreetly down a roadside drain (through the frame, etc) seems perfectly fine to me if there's no alternative place to go. yes, i have pissed on the bike during a race, but no one cared much. no, i would rather not do it if i have to sit in the pants for hours afterwards. i know it's perfectly sterile, but it smells after a while, and i'd rather not soak my seat or seatbag.

the point you guys seem to miss is one of balance. small town hick cops jumping out of the bushes with a camera should be the guys to get prosecuted for sex offenses, not the pisser. the tolerance i mentioned means allowing the police to assess the real impact of a situation and exercise leniency if warranted, or give a warning, or bust his arse if necessary. pissing surely can not be regarded as a sex offence, unless you have a lot of paedophile watersports enthusiasts writing your laws. oh right, you probably do, judging by the public record of many of your lovely evangelists and republican senators. .

and why go all the way and call it a sex offence? why not just fine someone for urinating in public, or failure to flush? legal madness. lighten up.

What is reason #39735230893 ? I mean, #395735238094 makes perfect sense, but #39735230893?

Adopting a wide stance and swiping your hand along the bottom of your top tube while relieving yourself could lead to arrest and conviction as a sex offender.

Not cycling related, but I'm a born and raised East Coast of the US guy. Go hiking in the woods all the time. Even in winter when the leaves are off the trees you can find a secluded spot within 30 feet of most trails.

Last September I was in Phoenix for work and got to go hiking in the evenings and in Grand Canyon on the weekend. It wasn't until the first time I had to relieve myself that I it really hit me that there are no trees in the dessert.

When I was hiking the Appalachian Trail, you couldn't always wait until the end of the day. I'd like to see the cops trolling the AT for public urinators, since they seem to pose such a clear and present danger to the safety and security of the general public.
