Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

new stem

I want to purchase an alternate stem for my 2006 Giant tcr2 and want to be sure I get the right size from ebay. I measured around the handle bars and got 101.6 mm and the length of the stem only is 63.5 mm it is an easton ea30. Do they make a shorter stem, and is the circumference for the bars and steerer universal? Any help will be appreciated.

Modern Road bike stems come in length from 90mm up to 140mm with a couple companies offering some shorter models. Your handlebar diameter is either 26mm diameter or the OS 31.8mm diameter. Might be easiest to just bring your bike into a LBS and they can tell you the length and diameter of your bike's stem.

bars and stems are measured diagonally your steerer will be 1 1/8 your bar and stem diameter will be printed on the either on the bar or stem or both. what makes you think you need a different stem?
