How much of a premium for LBS?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How much of a premium for LBS?

OK,

I am finally the guy posting about supporting the LBS. I am looking to buy a set of full carbon clincher wheels, and I am awaiting the prices from my LBS. I also have the opportunity to buy from a non-local BS and have them shipped. I build my own bikes and do 99% of my own work, so I try to buy from from my LBS whenever I can, but as a do-it-yourself guy, it isnt that much - maybe $400/year.

How much of a premium should I give the LBS before going the other route?

It really depends on the shop, their quality of service and their customer service.

My local shop warrants a 0% premium. Hopefully this will change with the new owner.

Depends. I'll give my shop 10% over other shops in the area.

I'd say 10% is fair unless it's a hot, new item then you're at the mercy of the market.
