Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Really? I've always associated the name Giant with good bikes.

I have a 2005 TCR1 Al. The quality has been excellent. It is fast and precise. My complaint is that it is too aggressively compact. I believe, but don't shoot me if I am wrong, they are less aggressively compact now, which I think would really improve the ride.

Wow. I only had to get through 13 posts before finding "The Bikeforums Idiot Post of the Daaaaayyyyyy"...

It's funny....Giant is the only company that I am aware of that extrudes their own tubing, right down to the $350 hybrid. They have total control of their frames. Even kids tricycles.

Besides, a studly pro rider like yourself would only ride free bikes and only the best stuff.

In fact its Giant and Time who actually buy the carbon fibre, weave their own sheets, make their own prepreg then make their own frames. Other bike companies start at the woven sheet or prepreg stage.

Personally I think Giants are at the sweet-spot of retail bikes. They are usually a good deal, well-priced, and well made. There are better deals to be had online from "no-name" brands, but I don't think you could go wrong.

Plus their new paint schemes remind me of Cyfacs, and that is unadulterated goodness.

I don't really know what I was looking at. I'm just generally thinking of taking a step- up with my road bike. I've got an entry level Lapierre my first bike which cost about $1,200 but I think it might be a little small and doesn't feel great.

Browsing around the shops I see Lapierres, Giants, and Ridelys. None of these brands really jumped out at me.

Lapierres are great bikes too, but I'm a little bias...I've always been thrilled with Giants, probably the best bang for buck. Atleast that I've seen anyway. Lapierre, Giant, Ridley; ride 'em all and something will jump out at you. Good luck

Wow this must be "The Bikeforums Idiot REPLY of the Daaaaayyyyyy"

It doesn't matter if Giant extrudes their own tubing. In fact, it doesn't matter what they do... most of their bikes just don't feel as responsive as some of the other top brands. To me, the TCR Advanced is the only exception and it's a great bike... I know because I've owned one!

Have you ridden other TCR's? The frames respond exactly the same, but they obviously come with lower end components and are therefore heavier and come with cheap wheels. This speaks nothing for the frame, as the Giant composite frames are all nearly identical. The "other top brands" that you speak of are likely Giant carbon frames.

No they are not nearly identical.

and... to you. Just to let you know, an integrated seat mast frame is NOT the same as a seat post frame that TCR A2 has. TCR Advanced frames use t-800 carbon for f0 carbon lay up... unlike the rest of the TCR series. Components are not the defining factor here, buddy.

In my honest opinion, Giant are great bikes and among the best bank for the buck. I look around before buying mine and they have been around for many years, first specializing in making frames for other famous bikes, like Schiwn, until they decided to launch their own brand name. They are hard to beat for what you get for their price, lok around and you will see that. I bought a 2007 OCR A1, but recently upgraded to a TCR C1 and can't be happier!!

I do ride free bikes and the best stuff. Just switched frames. Again.

BTW...since I can ride what I want, actually being in the bicycle business, and having ridden most of the top brands, they make good frames.

People give us bikes to try out. Sometimes I keep them. Life's good.

I work at the largest Giant dealer in the United States.

That bike was built for a guy that's 5'9"...it's the Seven fit system. Get out a tape measure and get an expensive custom bike.

Something about the conversion from inches to centimeters....
