Fly Ti MTB with mods/ride report
Fly Ti, new seat post (same Ritchey model, longer 400mm instead of stock 350mm), longer stem, new Conti Explorer 2.1 tires, 11-32 XT cluster. Brakes, shock dialed in:
Fly Ti MTB Ride Report: 5 miles of fire road today (took the dog out for a run) but the new cassette (11-32) is perfect (I can stay in the middle/big ring 98% of the time), the new tires are GREAT, the Fly Ti is GREAT, climbs fantastic, handles amazingly well on technical stuff, the shock feels outstanding (may be noodly for hard core MTB racer dudes, but that's not me) and overall couldn't be more pleased. Those Contis are a nice balance between everything I want in an MTB tire, relatively light @ 525 grams, they handle loose mud/sand/technical conditions well.
Here's the big difference between the Fly Ti and my old Jamis 853: on the Fly Ti you feel as if you have suspension under you in the rear as well. Really has a great ride. The Ti feels considerably more responsive, much better feel than the steel had. The SID fork feels far more supple and subtle than the old Manitou carbon (c. 1999). XTR shifting is still outstanding, that hasn't changed. I am thrilled. Thanks BD.

He was happy to get home. But those dogs are wired for running, and I'm sure if he gets trimmer he'll have an easier time. I'll talk to the vet, he's going for a check up this month. I took two water bottles and give part of one of them to Sam (you can't let them drink too much while they're exercising), we took a couple of breaks so he could catch his breath and rest a bit.
He gets a lot of walking in, but not enough vigorous running like he got today. I'm sure it's good for him (if it doesn't kill him).

There's a major reason for them in the woods: the wet muddy water that's a regular part of MTB riding gets on your water bottles. You don't want to get whatever microbes are in that crap in your drinking water. I'll probably start using the Cback again on longer MTB rides. I actually have one in the closet (cringe).

You aren't cool until you thrash your big ring on some log or something.

Oh Mr. Pcad, might I mention something? This would be the Road Cycling Forum. I can't but help noticing that the subject of this thread is a mountain bike. Again.
Thought you'd want to know, ya doofus.

For Pcad this is a road bike with snow tires.
Besides, don't you think with the unbridled entertainment value I bring this place, not to mention the endless BD Shill work, I should get some slack?

Your LBS have any more of those? That's what i wanted for my RS2 but went through 2 LBS's and 3 online vendors (including PBK) "selling" me something they didn't have in stock and couldn't get in stock.

Nope, they ordered it in from their regular supplier. I'm sure your LBS can do the same.

If that's true, they are ridiculously light. Weightweenies does peg them near that. I might have to give them a try once my current tires wear out. Give some thought to converting to tubeless w/Stan's. It's a bit of a pita to get it going, but it really is a killer system. Stan is the man.

My LBS are MTB experts, they recommended them a couple of years ago, riding them since, the new ones are improved. The Conti Explorers don't ride light very light tires when it comes to handling trail conditions. Really like them.
