Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dumbest Seatbag EVER

Sci-Con Elan. I got it last week to replace my Specialized Wedgie.

What a failed design. There is only one strap that attaches to the rails of my saddle, no second thing to strap to my seatpost. It fell off on Sunday; lucky one of my buddies I was riding with stopped to pick it up. Okay, fine.

TODAY I was en route home when I feel the back of my saddle. You can figure it out. Fortunately I only keep basic items in there- tube, co2, etc.

Sure it looks Euro, and pro, but at the end of the day, the Specialized Wedgie is superior to this stupid Sci-Con bag.

What the hell is an "Elan" anyway?

"Elan" = marketing word for, "you are not paying for high quality, we just make it SOUND good so u feel your money was well spent."

Yep, a secondary seatpost strap would be more secure and also prevent it from flapping.

Elan
:

élan
(ā-läN', ā-län') pronunciation

n.

1. Enthusiastic vigor and liveliness.
2. Distinctive style or flair.

[French, from Old French eslan, rush, from eslancer, to hurl : es-, out (from Latin ex-; see ex–) + lancer, to throw (from Late Latin lanceāre, to throw a lance, from Latin lancea, lance).]

Other Alternatives for "Elan."

This is actually a really nice seat bag in my opinion. First of all, I think I paid $14 for it new from CC, so it is not exactly the most expensive thing in the world. Second, the whole point is a bag without a seatpost strap. I have no desire to purchase new bibs every 400 miles because my bag put a hole in them. This bag is the perfect size for a tube, tool, and CO2. I have never had a problem with it falling off, either.

All in all, I say: Best Bag Ever.

I bought a "cannondale" version of that bag for 7 bucks from nashbar BECAUSE it doesn't have a strap to scratch up my carbon seat post. Couple thousand miles and no probalos. Try a safety pin or somethings.

Or, you could try to most euro pro bag of all time... a rubber band and your jersey pocket.

If I'm riding with a saddlebag I get the biggest hold all one i can put on my bike. Doesn't matter how you look at it, a saddlebag is a saddlebag.

Incorrect. That is so domestic pro. The most euro pro is a team car and a domestic-pro-quality racer who follows them around and carries their crap and gets water bidons from the team car. I think that is why they call them domestiques.

there's a reason to not have the strap around the seatpost. Velcro catches on shorts, and wears holes in shorts.

Just because you don't understand the reasoning behind the design doesn't mean it is dumb.

Agreed with your second sentence - but on the first sentence... really? Catching on shorts? Someone must not know how to use velcro or trim the straps down so there is nothing to catch on.

You need this one, in case your seat breaks, you can carry an extra one.

For those of us with huge quads the strap around the seatpost puts wear on shorts. I know a numer of people that cut the seat post strap off Pearl Izumi and other seatpost bags to decrease wear.

I would cut the strap off and just put it in my jersey pocket.

My specialized wedgie L does it only when I don't tuck the seatpost velcro. Tucked, no problem. Then again, I'm no Cat1, so I don't have massive guads

I ride with this one.

Just right for a tube, multitool, patch kit, air chuck and two co2 carts. No room for anything else. There is a velcro strap to the seat post if you want it (or cut it off) but the strap that goes over the seat rails has a clippy buckle thing that I have never had come loose accidentally.

I need a bag like that one. No matter how much I trim the velcro on my current bag, it wears out my bibs.
