Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

With friends like mine...

who needs enemies?

Some friends signed me up to ride the Gran Fondo Marco Pantani. No clue why they chose this particular Gran Fondo (other than the fact that the Maratona was full).

I finally got around to looking at the course:

1. PONTE DI LEGNO - PASSO GAVIA KM 17
Dislivello 1400 m
Pendenza media 8% e max 15%
2. MAZZO - PASSO MORTIROLO KM 12
Dislivello 1300 m
Pendenza media 10,5% e max 18%
3. BIVIO S.S.39 - PASSO S.CRISTINA KM 7
Dislivello 600 m
Pendenza media 8,5% e max 16%

Have wfrogge send you you some bbq and biscuits and gravy from memphis in preparation. I think that is what has been the key to your domination in the masters since your return.

assuming pbr is available locally.

Look at the bright side, there are some great downhills and a downhill finish.

We're all envious. With the value of the dollar, riding in Europe is not on the radar screen this year, probably next.

Dios mio, man.

I won't lie to you like we did to aham23 about the whole 'engine' thing. Retrofit your roadbike with all Shimano XTR components.

That looks like a great ride.

I hope those pitches are at least switchbacks. Those you can even out a bit more.

Enjoy.

Ciao, Bella, Sophia Loren, Vivaldi! That's all the Italian I know. Oops, forgot Marco Pantani.

You are blessed with friends that I can only wish for.

Yeah, the other one's have been in BeNeLux.

The guys I ride with have done several (Marmotte, Trois Ballons, Maratona, etc...).

Their favorite is the Maratona as the best run, and the Marmotte as the toughest.

I get the feeling that may change in 5 weeks time.
