Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

yer saturday ride...

me:

around 85 miles small group ride in absolutely great, sunny weather and decent scenery. had a near death, ok crash, moment on the only descent where the front of the bike started to wobble and wouldn't brake with the wobbles. so fu('n scary... appointment with the local lbs this week, they kind of loosened up the headset for me when i stopped by after the ride.

getting acclimated to the sudden shift to summer heat (high 80s & 90s after a stretch of mid 60s) is hard on the system.

not my pic, but a flickr excerpt of where i was today:

...hope yers was good.

53 miles, from a few miles inside Yellowstone's west entrance to Old Faithful and back.
met to other people at Madison Junction on the way back and paced with them for the last leg (well, until we hit a hill, where they got to see what a terrible climber I am (but I'm slowly getting better now that I live here...)).

no pics from this week, but I did a shorter, slower version of the same ride last weekend with a friend and saw bears!

No pics, but 72 miles, 6,277 feet climbing, temp in the high 60's to low 80's. Gorgeous ride along the ridgeline in Berkeley, drop down through the redwoods, a couple of stoplights and then back to trees, cyclists and very few cars on a two lane road past ranches and wineries...

Training for Climb to Kaiser. 75 miles, 6200 ft of climbing including Tollhouse grade. Temps up to 100, which is also good training for Kaiser.

Gonna take my camera next time, as there is a vista on Auberry road in which the Banner, Kaiser Peak, and Mt. Ritter are all on display.

A metric under bright blue skys and high 70's....First half of the ride was wonderful.....Second half was all up hill, (some of them hellacious hills} with a brisk headwind.....Last 10 miles or so was a lot of work, but all in all it was a great day out on the bike.

short 20 mile RT ride exploring the route to work- and stopping short at risk of biking through ghettos. Ill have to explore a different route...
Rolling hills of dakota county, mostly uphill and into 15mph headwinds on the way there. The ride back was a breeze! I prefer the tailwind..

65 miler today, the second metric century I've ever run, the first being on Thursday. Did the same route today as the one I did on thurs, only solo. On thursday I had a massive headwind on the way back (and had to play breakwind for a friend, not fun), but today was dead calm. Only wish I had more gears and more sunblock, though.

100 miles in the mid to low 80s. Had a few hydration issues. I can't seem to carry enough water with me.

None today, legs were a little tired from wend/thurs. But i plan to do 50 miles tomorrow with a climb that tops out at about 22% for about 5-600meters...should be fun.

it was my first ride/exercise since surgery last tuesday...

25 miles to the park with a few laps and back... was out of breath by the time I got to the park and the first lap killed me, but then I got my wind back and did a few more laps before the pollen tried to choke me. Will try to do 35 miles tomorrow..

A half-metric on the usual Winters loop...hot but a nice ride, very little wind.

Tomorrow we take on Mt. George on the Monticello-Solano century, taking the tandem out for a spin. I'll take pics (one of my jobs as stoker). Hoping to leave and finish early to beat the 100+ degree heat.

1 mile, then flatted. 'Twas pathetic.

Then used that as an excuse to buy a set of Michelin Pro 3 Race clincher tires from work.

Mine was about 12.4 miles. Which seems pathetic compared to some of the other distances I've seen on this thread. But I'm a new cyclist .

For anyone in Vancouver, I rode from the Commercial & Broadway area to downtown and back, and then back again... but then I had to go back downtown, so I did the whole thing over again. Was great both times, as the weather was beautiful.

Thats what I do, I bring a large bottle of water with me from home, and if I run out on the journey, I just buy more at any of the seemingly thousands of convenience stores across Vancouver.

Oops, sorry for the double post.
