Question re Bike Top Tube Height / Clearancen

I have a 32" pant inseam and the usual 34" biking inseam. I normally ride 56cm bikes, but am looking at a 58cm with a standover height of 82cm, which will still give me 1 1/2" to 2" clearance. What do you consider to be your range of clearance for a road bike?

BTW, I did an extensive search of the forum, the there are too many variations.

Thanks

Do you use your bike for standing over it?

i've been told by several BF'ers that standover clearance is irrelevant because you never really stand over the bike. having said that...i prefer about 1-2 inch clearance...

if you got 1" clearance, i think you'll be fine!

Best response yet.

You need to decide if the larger frame will require too short of a stem, too upright of a position, or the saddle to be too far back. If not, an inch is fine and enjoy the ride.

Good point BUT if you can't safely mount your bike It's hard to use it for anything. Some Ridley's are a good example. A Supercross has a 54tt, and a 58st (they call this frame a "54"). My wife rides a 54 and could ride a Ridley, supercross without a ladder.

Make sure you're checking standover with your cycling shoes on.
