need help! trying to buy first road bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

need help! trying to buy first road bike

Ok, so I found this ad on facebook for a cannondale. From what i deciphered in the description, its a Cad3 frame, i'm guessing they meant Caad3*? anyways, i'm still asking the guy questions via e-mail but he wants 400 bucks and says that the cranks are shim. ultegra and the rest of the components are 105. Also has a set of Rolf Vector wheels. Are those decent? I've been doing all kinds of research and I'm looking to get something reliable for a good deal, so i'd like to start on something with at least shim. 105's or better. I'm a college kid on a budget (possibly my credit card ) and this would mainly be ridden to and around CSULB. I don't plan to race, but i'm a 19 y/o kid and i like a fast pace. Anyways, from everything i've read it sounds like an awesome deal.

here are the only two pics given

any help appreciated! thanks!

400 for Ulteg/105 parts is pretty good, make sure that everything's in working order, that it, FITS, and that there's nothing that seems wrong with it.

Besides that fact that it's bright orange..

It's a good deal, but if it doesn't fit then don't buy it. Get someone who knows bikes to come with you and check it out.

I just bought a CAAD4 Cannondale R1000 with mostly Ultegra and the rest 105 components for $500 originally listed for $700 if that helps at all. I'd agree with above comments in that fit is the most important. If you don't fit in the bike, it's not going to be comfortable to ride, and then it's definitely not a good deal.

Best of luck!

thanks for the input. Its located in Colorado so I wouldn't be able to see it or ride it. I did ask for better pics. Its a 54cm so I figured it should fit my 5'8" build. Do I need to go sit on a specialized in a lbs to be sure. Any guesses on the model year? 90's? Anyone know a good shop in the long beach area? The only one I've seen was max's bikes and they only carried trek and lemonds

When you're new, ride before you buy.
Go local.
Good luck and don't drink too much at college.
