Summer vacation planning, help needed

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Summer vacation planning, help needed

I need help - looking for a destination within driving distance of Massachusetts where I can ride my rides in the morning, and take leisurely rides with the wife in the afternoons. Also need a location where there are other activities to induldge in (you know, the miniture golf, eating, drinking, tourist stuff like that)
My thoughts are upstate NY, somewhere along the Hudson, or Lake Placid, Lake George, Cooperstown (Ommegang in and of itself is worth the trip), but not Buffalo.
Pennsylvania - Poconos (the wife might enjoy all the cheey romantic hotels), but I read it's nice for biking and R&R, the Alleghenies, anywhere else in the state?
Virginia - Charlottesville, I would love to ride Skyline Drive, but I don't know if it would be too much for my wife.

Any and all suggestions would be welcome.

Anyone else have a "bike" vacation planned for the summer?

You could tour around and see the Wineries.
Google "Wine+Charlottesville" +10

Some Rides. Use Google Earth to look at the terrain.

Or I could dump her off at the wineries and ride all day

thanks for the suggestion, Shenendoah Valley/ Blue Ridge Pkwy would definately be my first choice.

I might move this to the Regional Discussions where it probably belongs.

have you tried down the cape? check out the cape cod rail trail. 25 miles long and there is plenty of tourist stuff to do. and the pirates cove mini golf is the best in hyannis. TWO 18 hole courses. plenty of good food too.
