Cyclist going to jail for no I.D.? This is crazy!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ZXiMan, you are so typical of paranoid people. The fact that others don't share your paranoia means that we just don't get it. That we are part of the problem in your eyes.

My dad was going to put in an airport for small planes many years ago. We have a half dozen or so of these around us. But, the town he wanted to put it in had one that was making good money, and felt he would take from that. So, they started a campaign to stop it. The went to the farmers around the property and told them that it would hurt them. Cows would produce less milk, chickens would die, etc.. So, at the town meeting, all these farmers came and whined about it. Idiot town leaders bought into it, and no airport.

A few years ago, my area was one of the areas being considered for a super collider. Some town folk heard about how it could be dangerous, so they formed a group. The went to our local rep, and the idiot bought into it, and put a stop to it. Hundreds of millions of dollars just left our community.

You can worry about all this crap that is happening to you if you want. Me? I just don't get it. There is no perfect world that would include everyone.

Pfffft...

I am anything but paranoid. It's called analytical thinking. The "proof" is right in front of your eyes if you would just take the time to research and read. If presented with two arguements and after due dilligence, research, etc, I come to some kind of conclusion, that is my opinion. I don't expect the people drinking the kool-aid to do anything. They simply do not care after all it's not directly effecting them. I care about my country, the state I reside in and the state of current affairs. I certainly hope I am wrong, but what if?

In a society of "entitlement", ignorance surely is bliss. There's lots of "Sheeple" to be herded. Sheeple are people who do nothing because they don't care one way or another. They just follow the main-stream and rarely if ever look at issues from other views.

I urge every American to read the laws and bills introduced since 9/11. Read the laws that are being introduced in the Senate and House that will soon be debated, then passed into law. Then read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Are these laws CONSTITUTIONAL? Are they within the bounds of the Bill of Rights" or are they not?

1 + 2 = 3 (always). Do the math.

If you do nothing, then you should expect nothing.

---------------------------------------------------

In CA, jaywalking is a failure to yield to street traffic which has the right of way. But as long as you yield and go when it's clear it's not illegal to cross a street anywhere. Obviously, this would be an impossible law since there rural roads where you could end up walking for miles to find an intersection to cross at. The main difference with a crosswalk is that it's a safe place to cross; a pedestrian either on the crosswalk (VC 21950) or approaching it (VC 21952) has the right of way. The vehicle code, however, does allow local ordinances to control where and how pedestrian can cross a street (VC 21961), but these are exceptions that need to be posted.

The math is easy for me. I'm not willing to sacrifice other peoples well being for perceived freedom. The big difference between what our government is doing and communist countries is that the intent is to protect people, not control them. If you believe that our government is violating our rights for any other purpose, then your are right, the end.

ZXiMan, I like your comments, you've been paying attention to what has been going on. Anyway....I always carry I.D. for obvious reasons, and I try not to break traffic laws and I never ride unsafe and put anyone in danger. The problem is the sheriff interpreting the law incorrectly. Riding 2 abreast on a 8 ft shoulder is not impeding traffic IMO. Rolling through a stop sign at 1-2mph is not worthy of a ticket either, unless you have cut a car or pedestrian off in the process. Everyone has rolled through a stop sign at one point or another, don't act like you never do. I guess what bothers me the most is how a petty offense can or will cost you money and time, and that the county has the money and manpower to "step-up" patrols to monitor the situation. Please, there has to be more important things to do with people's tax money.
Today a buddy called me up to do a recovery ride, as we are deciding where to go, he mentions a route through this county, we decided not to take that route.

How do you know what their intent is?

Anyways, I am done with this. If anyone cares, do your own research. Read the laws and orders. Pay special attention to the vagueness of the language that leaves TONS open to all kinds of different interpretation. If not then that is the choice you make. I for one will stand up for my freedoms. I still believe in the phrases "Give me liberty or give me death" and "Don't tread on me".

Anyways, I carry my ID with me when I ride so that they can identify me in case I'm involved in an acident and I am not coherant.

Why? I'd rather they identified what's wrong with me and brought me to a hospital. Let the hospital administrative staff figure out my identity. I always carry a driver's license, health insurance card, and my Amex, but I don't see why any of this is relevant to an EMT.

I've found that the only "license" I need for anywhere I go (cycling or otherwise) is a respectful attitude towards authority, and cooperation in helping them do their job. After I give them my DLN, SSN, DOB, address and 15 minutes to screen it all, I'm cleared to go. I've never been contacted for random reasons - I've either been speeding in a motor vehicle or out late with a group of people - and a closer look by law enforcement was appropriate. No harm, no foul.

Because they are the first there, they might be able to get your family to you in time before you die. It's not like they say let's see who this is, ok, now lets fix him. It's probably more like, this guy is really F-ed up, let's see if we can get a hold of his loved ones to let them know.

Would that helmet meet USCF regulations? Because if it does, we should all race with them.

This is only partially correct. You're required to identify yourself even if you pay the fine/post bail.

I don't know, I got it from Madona, so there should be another like it around to send in for testing.
