Frame size question steel Bianchi--too big?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Frame size question steel Bianchi--too big?

I'm currently riding a 57 cm Bianchi Imola however I suspect the frame is a bit too large. I am 5'10" with an approx 31" inseam. I have the seat moved all the way up (have done this with two seats) and I still find myself moving forward on the seat. I also have periodic numbness in my hands so I wonder if this is a symptom of being too streched out (?).

I'm thinking of trying a smaller frame perhaps in the 54-55 cm range...Salsa La Raza or similar.

Any thoughts? Anyone with a similar body type riding a steel Bianchi and what size?

Thanks.

Numbness in hands might indicate being too far forward and too much weight on your hands.

i'm 5'10" and had a 55cm bianchi that fit well. it had a 55.5cm effective toptube and 110mm stem.
57cm is not out of the range for someone your size, although it is on the bigger end of the average range.
how long is your stem?

Thanks. The stem measures approx 120mm so I can try a shorter one. The stem is not far below the seat.

I'm a hair under 5'10" with 32 inch inseam and both my bikes are 57 top tube. Both fine. 110 stems.

Sounds like you need a 110 or 100mm stem. You are trying to adjust the reach using the rails on your saddle. Overall, that's not a good plan. You might, in fact, need a zero setback post and forward saddle placement...but that is not the best way to shorten the effective reach if your knees and pedal stroke will suffer from it. Try a shorter stem, or (better yet) pony up the dough for a fitting session.

My Imola is a 57 with a 100mm stem (but my arms are kinda short). I'm 5'11" with roughly a 31" or 31.5" inseam.

Thanks everyone. I will try a shorter stem. I may also look into a new frame and transfer some components over as I do not have much money in this bike. At least one shop locally does a proper fitting session.
