Waving to fellow riders

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Waving to fellow riders

Hey guys i have i question. When you are out riding and you pass a fellow rider do you nood your head at them or signal them? The reason i am asking is every time i pass a rider going in the opposite direction i always nood at them but they never nood back. Maybe i don't know the rules for that situation. Could someone tell me if that is the right thing to do.

I wave at other pedestrians while walking down the sidewalk.

I give the finger to cyclists. They deserve it, they're all Aholes.

Did a ride Saturday up in the mountains and it happened to take me the opposite direction of a large organized ride. After a couple hours and about 100 riders I finally gave up on waving, nods, hand signals, etc.

Well, since I already know where this thread is probably going having seen recent events I'll say this from personal experience.

I rode with a friend last Tuesday and we passed several cyclists on our 35 or so mile ride. We waved to all of them. Most of them waved back.

When I'm riding solo and I see a cyclist go through my town they always wave to me. I get hesitant waving to random people I don't know but I wave back anyways.

If someone doesn't wave back, oh well. There's always the next one.

The other day I was doing intervals. But gals and freds on the opposite side of the road about -15of them kept on waving so I felt obligated to do so. I mean what do you do when they start waving about 1/2 mile ahead. Not good because the waving also made me notice the glutes and buttocks of shapely young woman and SUV in front of me decided to make an unannounced right. I barely missed him and I almost lost control.

No more waving when I am doing some hard riding. I'll imagine womanly glutes and buttocks post ride.

Down here in friendly ol' Texas, it's just about mandatory that when you meet another cyclist, you both stop, shake hands, and discuss the weather and how the folks back home are doing for a few minutes, and then off you both go.

i don't think many know how to nood... perhaps this is why they never nood back?
