Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

felt f80 2006, did i get a good deal????

paid 600 for it this morning, i rode it on a short ride and its sweeeeeeeeet, no clicking, all the gears shift smooth, and all the components are 105, i know some of these have tiagra for the front der. though...

anyways, i got a 52 cm and i'm 5'8" is it too small?

on the seat setting, how high should i have it? i think you're supposed to have your legs extended almost straight when the pedal is at its lowest point but i felt like the seat might need to be a little higher to achieve that but i was only able to move it up about a cm before it was at the max height.

Looks like a good deal.

My fave method of getting proper leg extension is to put heels on pedals, and then adjust seat height so that the leg is completely straight at the bottom of the stroke (again, w/ heels on pedals).

For forward extension, try and get a slight bend in your elbows. Go on some longer rides to judge how well it fits, or take it into the shop and have them fit you (but this means money & time)

That's a pretty good deal. I have the same bike, I bought it in the summer of 06 for a K.
I'm 5'9"/5'10" depending on the day and i ride a 54cm, so i dont think that a 52cm is far off for you.
at worst a new stem could aid in fitting.

I would recommend, as many would, that you get a good fitting at a reputable shop with a good reputation.

I would also recommend doing some research and getting yourself a new saddle. I thought the stock saddle was good, until I picked up a Brooks...

awesome thanks for the replies. yeah a new saddle is definitely going to be my first investment. As for pedals. they are look clip ins and it says 396 on the side. He gave me 2 pair of cleats, size 7 and 11.5. unlucky for me i'm a 10.5 and the 11.5's are huge on me. anyways how much is a decent set of pedals? I need to ditch the clip ins since i'll be riding this to get to school mostly and i already tried the 11.5's and fell on my ass when i saw a friend on my ride and stopped to talk, forgetting i was clipped in haha. and as for the one's on there how much are they worth? maybe a lbs would trade mine in for a regular set.

if you want to ride in street shoes, you have 2 options. you could get some old style toe clips and straps, or you could get some mountain bike type pedals and mtb shoes that hide the cleat so you can walk in them.

it takes a little time to get used to the clipless pedals, but they are the best for riding.
