Tufo tubular clincher compare to Cont 4000
Hi,
Can anyone tell me about experiences ( good and bad) with converting to lightweight Tufo C Elite Jet tubular clincher from say Continental gran prix 4000's? Weight of both types seems to be very similar when the tube is included. Do you recommend adding any slime type internal puncture product?
Thanks, Curt

First I would comment that selecting tires based on their weight is probably the most irrelevant criteria to use. The Tufos generally have done badly in rolling resistance tests, and the new Conti 4000S (with the black chili compound) have done well. The Tufos are also non-repairable if they flat.
Now, getting that out of the way, I like the Tufo tubular clinchers for a training and road racing tire. I'm running one of the CS22s (? I think) on the front of one bike. I like the way they feel, they corner well, I can run much higher pressure than a normal clincher, no risk of pinch flats, etc. It's probably worth noting that I weigh ~180 and like rock hard tires.
I flatted the rear Tufo t/clincher in a crit hitting a sharp edge of a manhole cover, but the front one's gone a couple of thousand training and racing miles and looks almost new.

I use the tubular clinchers on my Ksyriums and the Elite Road tubulars on my Rolfs. I like them both. I also use the Tufo tire sealant in both.
