To those who listen to music while riding...
What earphones do you use?
I'm looking for some earphones that will stay in place and help cancel out the wind in your ears.
any thoughts?
Ooh I'm looking in the $30 range, I dont have $100+ to spend on earphones...

Ya know... u ppl want it CHEAP and u want it GOOD!
I use a pair of Etymotic er6i, oftenly discounted around ~usd$70. Noise reduction around 26db which is what u want.
Please ppl, don't scream UNSAFE! 'coz I only use it on a county road, minimum traffic and a clearly marked bike lane and "unplug" one ear on intersections and blah-blah. OKAY!

If it cancels out the wind in your ears it cancels out the things you want to hear like car horns, motors and tires. Worry less about the Bose Sound Experience and more about getting home in one piece. You can listen to music on the road, but only if you can still hear the road.

I don't really buy into the "you can't ride safe and listen to music" argument. I use headphones on almost every commute and many road rides. I have had really good luck with these.... https://www.koss.com/koss/kossweb.nsf...m&pc^np^KEB24p . Nothing better than DJ Tiesto or Dennis Ruyer while drooling over your stem...... (About $24). Great sound but cheap enough that I can still hear outside noise. I am never suprised by a car from behind or anything like that and I can hear my riding buddies if I don't stick the dang thing in too deep or leave one ear out entirely. Also, they are cheap enough that you can easily replace them when they fall into your spokes (before you get smart and wrap them around your helmet straps). The helmet-strap-wrap also takes the weight of the cord off the bud so it stays put in your ear.

Thanks for the quick replies.
I just ordered a set of these... https://google-cnet.com.com/headphone...?tag=pdtl-list
they are supposed to stay in place very well, and have respectable sound quality for normal (non cycling use) I gout them for $30 shipped at amazon.
when they come in I will have to let you all know how well they work
P.S. 90% of my riding is done on nice quiet country roads, and I would never use them in a high traffic situation...

Just get an iPod (any type) and use the cheapo Apple headphones. They're perfect.

I can't remember the brand I have - but I recomend looking for a style with the hooks that go over the top of your ear. Where I do most of my riding I was more afraid of the plug falling out and gettting tangled in the drivetrain than I was of not hearing cars.

Depends on your ears. The stock iPod earbuds fall out of mine.

Not for me. I must have large ear canals. Mine will never stay put. (And you know what they say about guys with large ear canals.)

That said, I hate the apple headphones cuz they always fall out of my ears. I have a pair of cheapo over-the-ear phones and the sound is less than stellar but I can (mostly) hear the road.
Riding with an iPod rules.

I have problems with headphones falling out of my ear if they are just the ear-bud types. I have these cheap Sony's that hook around the top of your ear and they work perfect for me. They're just like 10-15 dollars, you might need to replace them every one or two years, but they work well. They sell them everywhere (Target, Fred Meyer, etc.) and they're blue.

I picked up a creative Zen least week and I hate the Ipod type ear-buds that it came with... well they are fine for walking around, but they fall out the minute you do something more than stand up out of your chair.
I tend to make decisions quickly. though I will take time and do the research needed as well, espeshilly if I'm going to get a deal.

I have these:
V-MODA Vibe Earbuds
I'm hearing impaired (as in I wear hearing aids and do the sign language thing) and I can hear and understand the music. I usually do the techno thing when I'm cycling though...

I tried a few different ones with varying success and settled on the Sennheiser PMX100s. They're behind the ear type, not ear buds so they take up slightly more space. I prefer that though, as most of the canal phones block out too much sound. They ALWAYS stay on, have really great sound and provide an eerily perfect balance between wind noise and hearing your surroundings. Amazon usually sells them for $30ish.
For an added bonus, they also have a carbon weave type thing going.

Sony MDR-EX71SLA
Use in one ear, provides good sound without the need to crank up the volume and damage your ears.

+1 on the etymotic er6i's - they rock my small world. could maybe do with a little more bass at times, but they're light, don't amplify wind noise (like I find the iPod ear-buds do) and are easy to pop in and out of your ears depending on the ride terrain (canal, both in - road, right ear out etc).
My advice though, don't go cheap on the earphones - cheap often means bad, boosted mid-range at higher volumes, which leads to hearing problems. (Though many would argue 'any' earphone'll do that to you anyway).
