Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Little people....

Got to ask: How small are Italian bike riders?!

Felt the chainlove.com yesterday. Ordered an XL Castelli jersey and picked up today. Good thing I tried it on and could swap out for an XXL (which is still kind of tight)

I'm just a skinny 6' , 170 lbs and would be a GIANT if ever visited Italia !

euro jerseys all fit snug, but it's a good thing usually as too many people wear jerseys that are too big. tight jersey equals no pocket sag.

European clothing is sized for people who aren't fat. American clothing is sized for Americans, who are fat. And I don't think 6' 170 lbs would be considered skinny...

I did not find a single 62 cm frame in any shop I visited in Florence, Rome, or Venice.
Plenty in Amsterdam.

My problem with American sizing is the torso and waist, way too long and wide. Euro size cycling apparel is the only way to go.

Castelli is hardly Euro, their jerseys are in between Euro and American.

I love the fit of Hincapie, De Marchi, and Santini. Material and construction is top notch. They are very uniform in Euro size, that's because most of the stuff is made in Italy.

North American brands are suited for North American sized.

I'm long-torsoed 5'10", 160lbs., and I wear a medium in honest Euro jerseys (incl. a brand-spankin'-new Italian made one).

You don't _look_ three sizes bigger.

I also weigh 160 pounds and wear size medium from Castelli and other Italian brands. There is more to jersey sizing that your chest size or weight. People with big shoulders or a big belly will have a hard time with Italian clothing. If you order a size or two up, the jersey will be way to baggy in many places and probably too long as well.

You would think so, since we are the tallest on the planet.

If I could pick up everything I bought from backcountry.com, steepandcheap, and chainlove, I'd be about $500 richer now. I don't think I've ever been this jealous of someone's location.

FAA/NTSB figured out the average weight is 200lbs per person for flights in the USA.
but that was a few years ago...

In Japan it's pretty common to totally ignore clothing brands from USA because they're about 2 sizes too large and only fat people wear them.

200 pounds per person includes luggage, right? No way the average American is 200 pounds (including women and children).

I've stopped buying cycling clothing from most American manufactures, the fit is just too big and baggy. I'll stick with Assos, Campy, DeMarchi, Capoforma, etc.

Mayday/Air crash investigation S5 "Dead weight"

Does not include luggage.
Average weight of american adult 1936 according to FAA, 175lbs
Average weight of american adult 2003 according to FAA, 195lbs

Luggage:
average was up +5lbs from 1936

that's why you get satire's like this: Derrie-Air

Yeah, I'd agree. I purchased their "Michelin Man" jersey (has a race cut) a few years back and it fits very well.
