Pro racing up close! - pic heavy!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pro racing up close! - pic heavy!

the MN bike festival has been going on this past week, I made it out to friday's race, and plan to make it out tomorrow as well (tomorrow is billed as the toughest crit in North America- I'll try to bring back some good pics!).
I'd sum up the races for you, but frankly its already been done better here (there's a summary for each stage).

I'll tell you its amazing to be within feet of some great pro riders! Races took place in a fe areas around the metro, the pics below are from downtown Minneapolis. Some of the teams here include Toyota, Rock Racing, Jelly Belly, Nature Valley, Bissell-- and silver medalist Kristin Armstrong is here for the second year in a row.

For the most part I wasn't able to catch much more than rainbow-colored streaks as the whizzed past (the last few laps the men were rushing past the finish line at 40 mph.. wowzers!) so if you're looking for better action shots, check the website.

The bike porn around town has been obnoxious these past few days

Enjoy!

I was there! It was awesome! I'm trying to make it there tomorrow, I think they have crits going all day so I might race. Bummer how it ended though.

no kidding! not that I want anyone to crash, but it would make for quite a site. I didn't see any wipe-outs on Friday, but Wed was slippery roads- they've got coverage on it under galleries > videos

Oh man - Lance is having a 'Pro-Night' here next week - this kinda stuff is getting me stoked for it. I wish I was a Cat 3 'cause if I was I could race with the likes of Ivan Dominquez and others. (edit - and get my butt totally kicked of course. Still can't believe their opening the race up to all P,1,2,3's)

Great pics Artifice.
