Cars pulling out on you, do they think we that slow?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, duh, but some eye contact is better than no eye contact.

20mph feels much slower in a car than on a bike. The fact that it's near the bottom of the speedometer in most cars only adds to the perceived slowness of such speeds.

The problem is that a lot of drivers don't look for cyclists and then to make matters worse, they ways underestimate how fast you may be going. Lots of times at corners, where a driver is turning in, I make eye contact and raise my hand for a stop. They always just wait for me to pass.

it's the same reason why people with one eye and no depth perception aren't supposed to drive cars, in most states. I think, I could be wrong about that, but that's why I heard.

I think drivers are thinking that they are going to very important places, while you (on a road bike) are going from your house to some remote land back to your house. His Blockbuster rentals aren't going to return themselves, you know.
