Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Livingroom

My good racer friend bought me a bike rack as a gift for my recent wedding. Odd choice as wedding gifts go but both my wife and I appreciate the extra space. I live in a smaller place and keep 4 bikes all indoors. Giro d'Italia rerun's on TV...

I have a similar rack in my living room... Though only one steed is worthy of the space.

But bikes+rack bigger than TV is just wrong!

Personally I'd do the "Seinfeld decor" but am big fan.

On a side note, anyone have any creative suggestions for a dorm room? I'm pretty stumped at how I'm going to make this work...

Can you hang it from the ceiling over the desk?

I think I'm actually going to buy one of those wall racks for my dorm room. I think it'd be a lot more space efficient than anything else I can think of.

When I was an undergraduate, there were two of us and two bikes. When we were in the room, bikes were usually in the hallway and the door stayed open. If our activities required closed doors, bikes were against the door. Cement walls and ceilings meant no hanging bikes.

For one year of graduate school, I lived in a closet-sized room by myself. I used the same rule. When I was there, bike was in the hall. When I was out, it was in the room, and at night, it was against the door.

I spent 12 years in various level of college and only a total of two years in dorms. Things were much easier with apartment living, but you really should be in a dorm for the first year, so you meet people.

Here's the link. I was very pleasantly surprised on the sturdy construction quality. I can mount 4 bikes with extra mounts on the arm.

I lived in a 10x15ft box of a dorm room in college with a friend. We both hung our bikes upside down over our beds. I had many incidences where I woke up too fast, only to hit my head on the handlebar!

Congratulations MIN!

As to my living room, the dogs rule. I do have a garage, with ample room for the Filmore.

I have 4 bikes in the living room, 3 in the master bedroom and one in a closet. Plus 3 more that are in some stage of being built, and 2 other frames that belong to friends.

I'm afraid if I posted any photos, I'd scare off any nice women I might want to someday get to know better.

This room is a former bank vault and there's no wood studs in the walls (they're some sort of metal), which would have made it a PIA (at least for me) to install wall mounts. Plus I just don't like the looks of indoor bike racks & my place is rented (aka, temporary).

Will have garage space in ~3 weeks to hang these puppies from hooks/racks screwed into wooden beams = no more bike in living room = good thing (at least according to the gf).

With that Xport system, how high off the ground is the first bike? I am thinking about getting on, but I sort of need the clearance.

Each of the 4 arms are independently adjustable for height, so as to account for size and compact frames, etc.

Nashbar sells the exact same stand in black.. Wish I had gotten it in that color, ( i have the gray performance version) but otherwise it's great. You can buy short arms that I put on the back for hanging wheels. It's almost as good as a workstand for working on the bike too...
