Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

yer saturday ride?....

me:

i did a quick 53 solo miles, the headwind going out was not friendly at all as i was getting moved around on the shoulder quite a bit and became extra concerned about vehicles.

but coming back was soooooo nice, i was able to sustain and hover around the 30mph mark on the flats without too much pressure.

the clouds didn't burn off until late afternoon, so that's when i planned to roll, hope the weather was good for you.

I went down and climbed Roxburg Hill Road and Fiddler's Elbow Road in Western New Jersey. They are a real leg burning pair of climbs with an average grade of 12% and a half mile stretch at 20%. Great ride.

Started out around 6 pm since it was 108 here today and rode up to mile 9.5 on a local climb. About 2500 feet of climbing-nice and mello. Wind kicked up like crazy on the descent and made it interesting.

went out with a couple of cat 3's and retired cat 1. They promptly ripped my legs off and beat me with them for the next 35 miles.

Just a nice easy 103, for my first century ride. Will have at least 2 more this year. I feel good today so all the base miles have paid off.

91 miles, 5 hours 20 minutes, had a few hills in there and breezy, 2 flat tires (gotta love PR2's...not), easy effort. I don't go hard on long rides.

75 miles, group ride of 65 and ride to start and home added a few miles. Rolling hills, nice ride for starting in the city. I didn't eat enough on the ride and was on my way to bonking by the end. I didn't give enough thought to 75 miles being a long ride.

Excellent! Those are some hills! I rode from where I live, just north of Princeton, up to Tinicum Park along the Delaware, crossing at Bull Island. Averaged just under 20 mph for the 28 miles with about 1000 ft of climbing. Met group there and did loop of about 40 miles in PA. Rode back to Lambertville with a buddy, he went to Pure Energy bike shop, and I headed up Quarry St. towards home. 85 miles total.

50 mi today to round off the weekend.

1st ride after recovering from foot surgery. I was off the bike for 3 weeks. Did 23 miles. Didnt want to push the distance or pace. Legs felt wonderful after 3 weeks of rest, although I did utilize the time to do quad and hamstring curls.

My Saturday ride was sad. Just sad.

Had some kick-a** virus early in the week; thought I was recovered and ready to ride, but decided on a 38 mile loop rather than the 60 I was gonna do. Glad I did.

A relatively flat 38 - 2500 ft of climbing - 16 average - it sucked. My legs never kicked in.

So today I skipped the ride and am concentrating on drinking lots of water, eating well, and getting back up to speed.
