who makes boutique cranksets?

not sure if its the proper term but looking for some fancy smancy boutique cranks. something along the lines of phil wood, chris king, thomson, hope, precision billet, paul, etc.

i really eat this stuff up but cant find any cranks to my liking. really just not into the new shimano and campy stuff, just too corporate and sporty for me.

anyone know of some hot new cranks?

What about StrongLite?

Blade-Runner 06-22-08 04:13 AM

I'm a fan of the Fulcrum cranks.

If you have a new dura-ace that's driving you crazy with its corporate sportiness, I'd be happy to trade an FSA Gossamer and a 'vintage' Stronglight for it. ;)

They're rotor cranks...

It's suppose to do that unless you know what you are doing....

^^^

What is it? Simply posting a photo with no info won't help the OP to find a crankset.

Soil_Sampler 06-22-08 08:15 AM

above crank is a Zipp Vuma ^^^

I'm an iconoclast and everything. But the crank on my new bike is FSA Gossamer, and so far, I'm not digging it. Makes clickity noises, aalready one adjustment, will go back for another. I used a 600 Ultegra crank for years, and never had any issue with it at all. Not one off noise, solid, beautiful. And I was 30 lbs more then.

So...obviously, get what suits your taste. But turning down Shimano or Campy because they're too corporate? Unless you made it yourself, what you're buying is from somebody who wants to make money. They're not doing it out of charity. And that last Dura-Ace crank was, to me, elegant and integrated from a design standpoint. A heck of a lot less cheesy looking than hybrid carbon duo-tone etc cranks...to me.

white industries?

My wife and I have a set of Da Vinci cranks on our tandem bolted on to Phil Wood BBs. Well made with interchangeable spiders. And yes, you can buy a set for a single.

Fulcrum is made by Campagnolo and its simpy a rebadge of their 2006 cranks. I wouldn't call that "boutique"
