Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Watching VS?

Looks like rock racing hour, the Rock camera is annoying, and commentary is awful!

It is a bit annoying however when without warning they cut from the race to another Rock Racing commercial, although the entire show is pretty much a Rock Racing commercial. I felt the announcers were just itching for one of their riders to do something.
All in all however, I rather enjoyed seeing some lesser known, up and coming racers riding a "smaller" race.

without rock racing that event would not have been televised nationwide. We should be saying thanks. As much as I hated the commentary. If I were a non cyclist flipping channels and saw that rock racing stuff it would catch my attention for sure.

Tour of Switzerland coverage was very good. Cancellera is a stud. I'm also thinking that Lotto might be quietly sneaking in for a good finish in the TDF. Evans did very well last week, and McEwan won a couple of stages in Switzerland before fading out (probably on purpose). Throw in the rest of the team up at the front during the final 2 k's and I think they'd have pretty good Vegas odds if there were such a thing.

Shame that Astana can't ride the TDF. It seems their plan to "win everything else" is going well, and will clearly demonstrate that not ALL of the top teams aren't in the race.

As for Rock Racing...they're mildly annoying, but I think in the big picture they might have a better chance of drawing US fans to the sport, so overall I think they're a good thing. I also love their uniforms as much as I can't stand Michael Ball. Conflicted? Yep.

terrible announcing on the philly race. even my wife who wasn't watching but was within earshot asked who they were and why were they so bad?
anyway, how about the whole take back the tour commercial? the one with the paul weller tune Brand New Start? (go weller!!)
all the reverse shots- floyd must twitch seeing the implied footage of taking off the yellow. crazy.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I felt about the Take Back the Tour ads. Was that Urlich without the helmet?

On the other hand, I enjoyed the "Weavers" ads for biking in Pennsylvania.

I'll second the horrible announcing part. The commentator during the sprint finish did such a horrible job.

It was basically like this:

"And there's someone from Rock Racing"
"Now there's a High Road Guy"
"Look, some Toyota dude making a push"
"And.....it's someone from High Road taking the win!"
-Actually, it was CSC's Matti Breschel who won

Yeah, thanks for the deep racing insight there, announcer-man!
I also enjoyed the way he had the race going up Lemon Hill for the last time - three times!

It sounds like Vs took the local feed with John Eustice doing the call. Eustice is pretty weak at spotting riders but in all fairness he can't be doing many races a year. The US racing scene is fairly liquid so it's a tough gig. He raced in the 80's/90's and had some good results in that Philly race.

The TakeBackthe Tour stuff....were all of those guys cheaters or suspected cheaters that they showed running in reverse? and yes the guy w/out the helmet was 'the great German beast' himself....Jan Ullrich.

It was awful, I am glad it was being covered, but when the "weavers" commercial was the best part of the whole thing, that isn't saying much for the coverage. It may be one thing to not know all the riders names, or to know which rider is in the camera shot, but they kept announcing 2 laps before the end it was the last lap, two laps before the bell lap!!! That is why there is a bell genius.
