Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

crashed my new canyon AL 7.0

I need some advice.
on saturday i was knocked off my new canyon.
An idiot in a cage pulled out in front of me and i crashed into the side of his car and I went up onto the bonnet.
I want to keep this short, i wasnt badly hurt some road rash and i might not be able to have children
The cops were great they said it was 100% his fault. (i was in a cycle lane)

here where i need the advice. I brought my new bike (5 weeks old) to get a quotation for repair.
It needs a new ultegra shifter. The shop also recomended i change the fork, they cant say wether it is definitely damaged or not; but there is some marking on it.
the frame is also slightly marked but the shop says its fine.

I need advice on what carbon fork to buy. the current one is a one one four SL i believe this is canyons own brand, but i could easily be wrong.

In short i absolutley love this bike the fit is perfect. I am gutted, im back on my old lapierre.

whats the best carbon fork available?

replace anything that's even scratched... if it wasn't scratched before you deserve a new one.

+1

100% his fault eh?

= NEW BIKE FOR YOU...

demand no less...

..if the shop cannot tell if the fork is damaged .. what makes you think they can tell if the frame is damaged?

...again...

....demand a whole new bike.

I really dislike the lawsuit claim culture, but i really love my bike. I do alot of climbing and i dont want to be thinking is my bike going to colapse underneath me every time i decend after a good climb. After all i could be pretending my back was damaged. i just want my bike back the way it was. sorry for going on a bit! thanks for the advice.

you don't need a lawsuit....

But if the bike wasn't scratched before, and it is now, then it deserves to be replaced. period.

Think if someone scratched your car, it's certainly still drivable, but an insurance company would still have to pay to have it buffed out.

I was recently hit and got quoted for EVERYTHING that was even scratched, they ended up totaling the bike and giving me a good chunk of change for it. I kept the bike and bought another one. Now I have a good stock of slightly scratched parts that work perfectly.

I should add my frame fork and wheels were actually totaled.

The best fork available? I think I saw a sub 300g fork for $800 the other day! How about the best fork amongst Edge, Reynolds, Easton, and Alpha Q.

https://www.edgecomposites.com/

The Edge 2.0 (Edge Composites). 325g uncut, stiff and strong

My LBS sells them, though they appear to be out at the moment. They're super helpful, and have an internet store. Maybe you could order one through them? Not sure were else they're sold online

Woah, so you're hurt enough to possibly be rendered sterile and you're worried about your bike?

That guy's insurance company owes you a lot more than a new fork. I'm not a fan of overzealous litigation, but you have a big case for a major claim against the driver's insurance.

Find a lawyer or talk things over with a legal counsel, especially one with bicycle law.

Keep in mind that Canyon uses an oversized 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 conical shaft.

Sorry about the bike, but you may have suffered injuries in this crash. You may think you're OK but only a licensed attorney can determine the extent of your injuries.

"...and I went up onto the bonnet."
You must live in the UK where cagers drive on the wrong side of the road!

I don't know if you were being intentionally cynical here or not, but I laughed I didn't know medicine was taught in law school.

Thanks for all the comments genuine and otherwise. I am struggling to find humor in the situation at the moment. The insurance company have requested a description of the crash. I didnt include that is was a dutch driver on holiday in ireland. so i am now dealing with a dutch insurance company. Trying to explain why the driver is a dunce to someone with little grasp of the english/american language is very little fun.

are you implying that the driver is a farmer?
