Saddle tilt problem

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saddle tilt problem

Is there anyway I can get my saddle level? I have one of those saddle clamps with grooved notches in and can only get it tilting up or down, but not level.
I've always been riding with it tilted up,but have recently realised it wasn't doing my lower back problem any favours,so for the first time today I went out with it down, but with some good and bad results.
It seemed to ease the backache, but my quads got burned out a lot quicker due to more pressure being forced on my legs than with it up.

Get a microadjustable post.

Some people say that it is ok to file off the serrations but that seems like a bad idea to me.

Funny enough, just before checking here.I was/am just about to do that.I'm hoping the screw will hold the seat tight enough to stop it sliding around

Sometimes it works if you tighten it just a bit at about level, put a level on it, and give it a little jab with your hand to move it a little at a time.

Someone I know has used a thin shim on the seat rail (eg a bit of a beer can) to alter the angle?

I just gave up and got a Thomson Elite and I am completely happy with it. There is nothing worse than fiddling with a crummy seatpost and putting up with the tilt.
