Give Us Your Mid-Year Updates
The year is halfway done tomorrow. How has everyone been doing in reaching their objectives for the year.
As for me, I am on track to meet my goals of 250 hours of riding with 127 hours ytd, even with missing most of the month of January due to ankle problems. I have ridden a little over 2250 miles and have accumulated 9543 worth of TSS from my power meter which means I am getting in a fair amount of work each week. I am in good shape and feeling more comfortable on the longer rides, especially hilly ones. I have 1 major goal for the 2nd half of the year which is the Six Gap Century at the end of September. That ride has almost 11000 feet of climbing in it so I will need to do some serious climbing workouts in the next couple of months to feel completely comfortable going into that ride.

I only got back into road cycling in mid April, and wanted to do some serious climbing this year. I was just comparing my first ride up Lookout Mountain to the one I had today. My first ride practically killed me and it took me 37.5 minutes to the the last overlook (4.3 miles, 1,600'). Today I did the same climb in 30 minutes and then rode another 20 miles with three more climbs.
I didn't have specific goals other than getting back into road cycling, but no I am setting my sights on some high climbs. I may do Mt. Evans (over 14,000', but starting at 7) this week if work and weather cooperate.
BTW, on my goal of getting back into road cycling, I rode my MTB yesterday, and really decided I am not into it anymore, so I guess I hit that goal.

I can't afford the new road bike bling I want... so I am getting rid of my fixed gear and building up a ground-up new.
In completely unrelated news, I'm looking for FG stuff ;-)

As well, I only just got back into riding. Been at it about 2 months now, and 20 pounds worth of weight loss. So far I've logged 514 miles and spent 35 hours in the saddle.
No real goals though. I'm just going to keep riding and get into shape.

2000+ miles about 175 miles behind last year... had surgery in May and was off the bike for 2 weeks and then 2 more weeks of short rides to build up strength.. stress this winter added some pounds to my frame...
Did have a good June... 660 miles, and I am 9 lbs lighter than at the end of May..

On par to get my 8000 miles for the year as planned. Also, got a new bike built up, which should last me a century or two. However, I am getting an itch slowly to get another. God knows I need another bike like I need cancer!!

Way, WAY behind. Not commuting has put a huge dent in my miles. With that said, there is no off-season in Houston... I'll be riding up to new years eve

I've always wondered how people find the time to ride this much. Do you commute? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great but when I look at my schedule, finding the time to ride more than 250-300 hours is tough. I could probably squeeze in 500 hours if I didn't do anything other than ride, sleep or work.
Way to go, keep it up!

825 miles
37,728 feet
14.8 avg spd
55 hours
My goal this year is 2,400 miles. My avg speed has gone up to around 16.5 recently, so I'm happy about that.

I commute [nearly] everyday, 27 miles x 5 days. Next year, that will be jacked up to 44 miles per day since my job is relocating.
I ride less long miles when I'm training to race, but otherwise I ride throughout the winter with the DC Randonneurs or solo or with the Baltimore Bike Club. I have somewhere around 15 centuries for the year, so far.
I did this solo 140 miler 2 weeks ago in prep for an upcoming 180 miler:

I did this ride last Saturday:

I'm doing this ride, starting Thursday--180 miles one way:

I did the same ride last year: slideshow:

Once at Ocean City, I'll be doing some rides in that area, leaving Sunday morning.

This sounds just like work. mid year assesment.
If you have kids, you have to sacrifice unless you don't care and do not want to participate in their upbringing.
Wife or spouse only yeah maybe, but if you ride too much and do a century every weekend, you have to watch it. She may get in bed with someone else while you're hammering away. After a hard century, your nuts numb and all you want to do is sleep she might just get tired of it eventually. I know of someone where this has happened.
I think I am okay with my goals. I am mostly solo, did more solo centuries than organized, I commute as much as possible.
