Is there any market for used cycling clothing?

Ok weird question...maybe. But finally I am riding, running and lifting enough as well as eating better and my body is changing...for the better. I am down at least 10 lbs this year so far and having weighed in at 208 last night I am now as light as I have been in the last 15+ years.

So what does this mean...of course it means all of the cycling clothing I have purchased is starting to get too big. But what do I do with it all...I am not going to just pitch it...some of this stuff is pretty new...and some of the older stuff has hardly been worn. So is there a market for used clothes?

I have 2 pairs of PI bibs that have only been worn a couple times each and they are too big....same thing for a pair of Nike bibs. If laundered will someone buy these? I assume jerseys will be an easier sell?

Would YOU buy a used pair of bibs (I guess I am asking because I wouldn't)?

If I could fit in your old cycling clothing, I would probably buy it and wear it. I'd much rather pay 15 bucks for a slightly worn jersey, than 75 for a brand new one, yet the exact same thing.

People sell used Assos bibs all the time; I wade through them on eBay. I don't understand who would buy them.

On the other hand, I don't see a huge problem with a used Jersey.

The Japanese have vending machines that dispense used panties, so I'm sure there is some fetish market for it somewhere.

Not a very good market..."WTS Assos FI.13 bibshorts. Worn twice. Minor skid marks. $120 obo."

Its a moral dilemma. I can't think of a good reason why washing them well wouldn't make em good as new- but at the same time, I wouldn't buy them.

People do, though. If I were you, I'd try to unload them on ebay!

I think I might buy used bibs. It's not like I think I would catch syphillus from them or something. But I"d have to think on it.

If they're high priced bibs in great shape I'd try selling them in a lot (assuming same size) and not put a big start price or reserve, obviously. Personally I like my chamois unsoiled....:innocent:

As for Jerseys, I have sold and bought used. Mostly bought vintage wool stuff, but sold a bunch of jerseys for the same reason - I lost weight and the loose fit was really uncomfortable (not to mention unsightly).

Could bibs be taken to a professional cleaner for a good, thorough cleaning/sanitizing? I'd strongly consider slightly used Assos bibs if it were a great deal and they could be professionally cleaned. Still not 100% on the idea though.

Save them for the winter when you put on a few extra pounds from not being able to ride as much.

I think reselling anything that has been next to your plumbing should be against the law. It's a health hazard. Tide says that their detergent removes 99.9% of bacteria during the wash. Let's dissect that. Let's conservatively say you deposit 1 billion bacteria on your bibs during a ride in the form of sweat, urine and turd. After washing them, there are still 1,000,000 nasties on there. If you think 1 billion is too high, let's say 100,000,000. Still 100,000 remain. In other words, they are not clean and they never will be unless you wash them in bleach which will kill the bacteria and your bibs.

I've gotten several jersey's on eBay over the past year.....stuff that would run $50 - $120 new and I've gotten them for $15-$40. In two cases, the jerseys were new with tags. I'm in the same place as the OP and now have a few things that I will sell since I have gotten smaller and they no longer fit correctly (beyond just looks, they feel uncomfortable due to being too big for me now).

Bibs? Only if they are new with tags (search eBay for "NWT"). But I've been able to find better sales on bibs and shorts at regular retail than I've found on eBay. Will I try and sell my own shorts/bibs? Sure, if someone else wants to buy them then that's cash in my pocket.

I've bought a few "ride" jerseys on eBay that were new in the bag. Paid $14 for one and it was a very nice Hincapie full-zip. Ride organizers always have some left over after a ride. I just search by the brand I'm interested in.

Used, though? Nope. Too many good deals on new stuff to go that route.
