3 speed internally geared hubs for track style frame

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 speed internally geared hubs for track style frame

I'm looking to build up a rear wheel with a 3 speed internal hub for use on a track style frame (120mm spacing horizontal track fork ends). I have a few questions that maybe some of you can help me with.

1. Which brand (nexus, sturmey archer, sram) has models that will fit into 120mm rear spacing?
2. What hub can take the most abuse. I'm 6'1" 200 lbs so I need a sturdy hub.
3. I am looking at the sram imotion speed with a coaster brake. Will this hub work on my frame? I cannot find any specs on it.

1. None of them.
2. Nothing on the market is designed for 120mm. Maybe check vintage Sturmey Archers.
3. No. See the end thingy there requiring a bolt, you don't have that on your track frame.

I think you might be mistaken, with all due respect.
The Shimano site (click here) says that the nexus 3 has an OLD of 120mm and with an 18t sprocket, I can get within .8 of a 42mm chainline. As for the coaster brake bolt on I'm pretty sure nothing needs to be mounted to the frame. Can anyone else weigh in on this?

yes for the coaster brake something needs to be mounted to the frame.
but they make tabs they just wrap around and go on there, not have to be welded on. you can find the piece and it is dirt cheap, odds are it will come with the hub.

as for the hub try the classic and vintage section. they have lots of information on those types of hubs.
every once and a blue moon something like what you are building turns up in ss/fg. but it is like once every 6 months or so. I have seen it done. but it isnt common.

good luck with it, keep us updated.
