I have a friend who lives on Cape May, NJ and trains for hills by riding his MTB in the sand. He does a 10 day tour every July and I've seen him take on hills that crush most people.

That's the last section of Mont Ventoux, it's almost disappointing once your that close to the top, I loved that climb. It is a very odd thing to climb up a mountain on a desolate road for 1 1/2 hours to find a souvenir shop at the summit. I bought a Coke and headed back down to go back from another angle.

I assume you're going to Spain, not to compete but just for some riding. If so, there is less need to "train" for Spain. Just use Spain as a location where you will ride and train at the same time.
