Vanilla Speedvagen Custom Road Bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Very cool. I've been looking at thier cross bikes and trying to figure out how to swing $3200 under the wife radar.

And you answer "awhile"...
Perhaps your intentions are not to be offensively condescending,
but you have to remember that first impressions are lasting ones.

Nah, I've spent a lot of money lately. With a new baby due any day, it's an issue right now. As for the wait, last time I talked to Sacha, it was only 4 years. Damn, I better make up my mind.

Would a phony receipt help?

Good work. Glad to see that there are few quick souls on this forum who really don't miss a thing.

Richard has been making some of the best built frames in the world since the early 70s. Some things are wort the wait... having a legend build your frame is one of them.

You could also go with Yamaguchi, or Steelman. They've been building frames almost as long as Sachs, but have only a six month wait.

The thousand bucks you save will go a long way in parts. NO ONE makes a better cx frame. Richard Sachs stuff is a good... the rest are a FAR distant second.

Vanilla isn't even taking deposits now, and is at a 5-6 year wait. I called 'em up last week, but no luck for me yet.

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the speedvagen sort of a production frame for vanilla? i would expect the wait to be a little shorter than 4 or 5 years for that model

As pointed out above the SVs are a joint venture b/w Vanilla and DeSalvo. A limited production frame not custom.

im not sure where you are getting this information but this bike is custom. i flew to portland to visit sacha and get setup for this bike. there was a stock size offered at a lesser price but there were a few custom frames built.

"quite a bit more" huh?

aside from the 15 frames made, there were some made for the original vanilla cycles team but thats it.
speedvagen was 100% designed by vanilla however mike desalvo helped sacha do the building for these are the cross versions.

The Speedvagen is Sacha’s first attempt at a limited production model. There will only be 30 made in this style (ordering begins on April 1st). Each one comes with a custom fit and a limited color options. But besides that, the other options are not negotiable
