Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New to Biking looking for a bike

I want to start riding because I have to take a break from running. I am planning on riding around 200 miles per week. I am looking for a bike in the $1000 range. I have looked at a few LBS and found Trek 2.1 (poor components) $1150, 2007 BMC Streetfire SSX (105 comp w/ Ultegra rear derailer) $1299, Fuji Roubaix Pro (105/Ultegra) $1000, Giant OCR A1 $1100 (105). Should I make a choice from these or should I go down to Trek 1.5 ~$950 or even lower and upgrade later? Is Trek really that much better? I am riding an old Scott MTB and road 15 miles yesterday with 15 mph average. My highest gear is 42 front and 14 rear (I need more gears). I plan on test riding the bikes, but would like more info before going back. Thanks for any comments.
