What happens to them...

Ever notice how the riders just toss their water bottle into the bushes? Does anyone know what happens to the water bottles tossed on the side of the road during the TDF and many other stage races?

they might have an army of people following the cyclists to clean the road and pick up the crap they throw to the side. That or some spectator will pick it up.

You could probably go there pick them up and sell them on e-bay for some money...

Reynolds 07-05-08 12:49 PM

They are picked up by the police and classified as hazardous waste.

They are picked up by various companies, rinsed with water from the nearest creek, and resold in bike shops.

I was watching a race a month ago and a rider threw a bottle off to the side and it just about smacked into a guy standing next to me. That could have really done some damage if it made contact with anyone.

An empty water bottle doing some damage? Must have been some throw.
