HEED question

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

HEED question

I was just about to mix up two 1 scoop 24oz bottles of heed for my ride tomorrow so it will be one less chore to do before I head out. I stopped because I know some of the Hammer products can't sit for a long period of time, I know Perpetuem is like this. Anyway do any of you know if there is any problem mixing heed 12 or so hours before your going to start riding?

In the past I have used HEED and whey protein powder in water for recovery after a workout. I would mix it before school, then workout after. That bottle was pretty much ruined because of the smell/taste of it the next day. I always use the same water bottle for HEED so that only one tastes bad with normal water in it.

So, it will make your water bottle taste bad/smell in the future, but I think the HEED will still 'work', in replacing electrolytes etc.

I mix my HEED up shortly before my rides. I've done it the night before, and it just didn't taste right.

Generally I mix all Hammer products right before use. Perpetuem and Heed I will sometimes mix up the night before on big rides and just put it in the fridge. Absolutely no issues.

The others most likely did not refrigerate their bottles overnight.

I just try and get everything set up the night before so I pretty much have to put on bibs and a jersey and get on the bike, it's really hard for me to get motivated in the morning and get on the bike. (HTFU i know)

On all big rides I get dressed, put the bike on the rack, and pull the already mixed bottles out of the fridge and put them into a bag cooler and get into the car.

Everything is already packed and checked a few times the night before.

It's not lazy or a HTFU situation. It's simply correct.

I pack some of my stuff the night before, but I just get up earlier in the mornings than usual to pack the rest up before a big ride. Normally, I take about 35 minutes to get ready for work, but if I'm going out for a day-long ride, I'll give myself an hour to get ready ... which gives me time to mix my HEED.

Stuff I read over at the508.com suggested using the stuff within 24 hours. The Sustained Energy and Perpeteum mixes are no good after 48 hours (something about the protein getting messed up). HEED's probably fine if you use it within 24 hours.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but does anyone put Heed or Perpetuem into their Camelbak?

I know that many roadies would rather dehydrate than to wear Camlebaks, but I injured my elbow (actually its distal bicept tendonitis) and can't reach down grab and pull up the water bottle. My doctor told me either get a Camelbak or quit riding. I got the Camelbak and actually like it alot.

BTW, I use to refrigerate premixed Heed and Perpetuem the night before and it was fine for use the next day.

+1
Refrigeration is key. I have been pre-mixing/refrigerating both HEED and Perpetuem for several years with no issues. But, if I leave the Perpetuem bottle out on the counter overnight it does smell/taste a little funky.

No matter how or when you mix Heed it dosent taste right. Too much artificial sweetener for my liking.

I would suggest if you're going to mix it in a Camelbak, get one of those bladders that you can turn inside-out to clean. If using bottles, wash them out when you get home or they get nasty.

Too sweet? I can barely taste it when I use a full scoop. You need to eat more peppers to dull your hyper taste buds.

I love HEED and it's sweetness level.

IF ne one here thinks it too sweet, try using the powerbar endurance powder stuff. It's hardly sweet at all, esp. in lemon-lime.

Right now I'm trying Cytomax and I consider it wayyy too sweet. I'm a sweet-tooth too.

Flavored HEED is about the least sweet drink I have tried.

But if it's too sweet for you try the unflavored HEED. It is barely noticeable.

Actually, HEED is perfect for me. I have a very sensitive stomach and when I find something that works for me it would take a gun to my head to make me try something different.

Say what???
Xylitol & stevia are both natural sweeteners.
