Gunnar Sport vs Soma Smoothie ES vs... ?

Hi all,
I'm thinking of either a Gunnar Sport (http://www.gunnarbikes.com/sport.php) or a Soma Smoothie ES (http://www.somafab.com/extrasmoothie.html) as the basis for a road bike that'd be sportier than the Surly Long Haul Trucker I currently own. Anyone have thoughts one way or the other? I'm looking for clearance for 25/28s and perhaps fenders. I'm imagining rides in the 50-100 mile range, so I'm looking for handling/position that's a bit more relaxed than a full-on race bike, but that's still fast enough to be fun.

And if anyone near Seattle has one of these, I'd love to (potentially pay you to let me) ride it.

Thanks,
Daniel

I'd like one of each myself, but I suppose that's not always possible. They're very similar bikes, though I believe the Gunnar comes with a "nicer" tubeset. I think it comes down to which one you find the best deal on.

Don't know about the smoothie es, but my Double Cross is awesome and my next bike will be another soma for sure.

Gunnar Sport is an amazing bike. Not all steel frames ride the same. This one is better than most.

Surly Pacer? I've got one and I like it...

I have a Gunnar Sport with about 8000 miles on it and it rides great, especially on rough roads. Mine is a 62cm and the frame is about 4 pounds. It does have a long head tube and I use an uncut steer tube to get the bars up high. A friend has a Soma and likes it,too, but I think the Gunnar looks better.

The Gunnar is much more expensive, and worth every penny more. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with a Pacer, but it's not in the same class.
