Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Empty Box From Bikeisland.com Cost Me $350.65

Help if you can! I just came home tonight to discover that UPS delivered an empty box from BikeIsland.com

I know how big they are and I've read good things about their customer service so I doubt it was BikeIsland's fault, but if anyone has a working phone number for them or knows Mike I'd appreciate you contacting him personally and letting him know and I've spoken with UPS and they are sending a driver tomorrow to pick up the empty box and start a investigation. I've emailed BikeIsland.com and tried a phone # found on my PayPal receipt, but it is a fax or something.

The crazy thing is they didn't just set it at my front door, they actually rang the door bell and my 81-year-old (Going on 30) mother who lives with us answered the door and received the package and brought it in the house so no one had a chance to steal anything here. However she had to let the driver get to his truck to keep our dog from going after him.

I'm just in shock and really disappointed, but I expect it will all work out and I certainly won't be out anything since I can file a claim with PayPal if necessary.

I've heard of good packages, bad packages, and damaged packages from bikesdirect/bikeisland, but an empty package?

I'm sure it's a mishandling of things, what did you order anyway?

And it does suck that they have no real form of contact... which is why I ultimately went amazon over BD/BI.

I used to work in the receiving dept of a large company, one of the vendors was a company that sold buckets of rocks/gem stones. One time i got a 7 box order, 6 boxes were full of the rock/gem stone mix. The remaining one contained a bunch of chemistry books. Another time we got a box full of nike golf gloves from Glo Germ. Get it?

I've been to the bricks and mortar Bike Island in Plano, and have spoken with Matt there. Mike is in Florida, I believe. I would suspect UPS based on all the horror stories I've seen in this forum, as well as others (automobile forums).

Go here, send the e-mail, be sure to leave your phone and they should call you back without a problem.

I've told this story before on herre but I'll tell it again when I was working at a camera store last year I packed up a Nikon D3, 14-24,24-70,70-200, and a 200-400 about 20k worth of camera equipment, i went to ship it to the lucky buyer and they happened to be loading the truck when i was leaving. The guy was literally THROWING the packages in the truck, ones stamped with fragile. I shuddered to imagine what happened to my packages.

Excellent News! I just got a email from Jeff @ BI and he said he is starting the investigation and will send out a new shipment right away. Now that's good customer service even if you can't call them.

Easy to tell if the box was packed empty at BI. Check the UPS weight on the shipment when they received it. If it's over a couple pounds good chance someone at UPS has your parts.

Ha!

I don't see how someone at a store could ship an empty box, but if the volume is high like it is at bikeisland.com it could happen.

Or UPS could very well just have taken the parts.

Well I thought it only fair to Mike and Jeff of Bike Island and Bikes Direct to share the final outcome of this situation. In all fairness I'd have to say they both responded in lightening speed to my concerns and to send a new box filled with all the great stuff I ordered. I can't tell you how great my new wheels are yet, because my frame is still with the frame shop that is doing some minor work on it for me and sending it out for powder coat. hopefully it will be all put together before the end of this weekend if I don't have too many other things that get in the way.

Maybe the stuff you bought was so light... I'm talkin' weight-weenie drooling light, that you just didn't notice it?

Ok, just kidding. BD is good about problems like this. He'll file a claim with UPS if he needs to, or he'll smack the person who supposedly sent out your box.

The the box wasn't supposedly sent "the box" was sent just minus the goodies inside! It was like when I was a kid and discovered someone else got the toy out of the cereal box, before it was empty after waiting to get it out till I ate all the cereal like my mom told me to!

No, the box would've had a bottle of lube inside.
