Hijacked account in which perpatrator sell's multi items under seller's user id.States in auctioin not to contact seller direct but diverts to another email address.Only accepts western union and denies any escrow services.I contacted this scammer and this was the response:
Hi,

I'm sorry at the moment I don't use escrow.

I have something safe for you because I want you to be sure that you will receive the bike.

Look what can I do for you:

-you will make the transfer to my location but not to my name(you will use your best friends name for example as receiver's name)so you can be sure that I will not pick up the money untill you get the bike.So you make a deposit at western union and you will give me the transfer's details so I can check on their site if itīs valid.

After I verify I will send you the bike imediately and email you the tracking number from UPS.

-only after you will receive the bike and check it if it ok you will have to call at Western Union to change the transfer to my name so i can collect my money. So,untill you will have the bike in your hands the money will be deposited on your best friend's name at western union agent.

Thanks.

This was my response and no further contack was sent to me:
How about i forward it to your local police station ,that way you can sign for it directly, give me your name and location and i will contact the local station in your area, since you don't want to use escrow.Let me know. :)

Wow...

That's nuts. Someone bought my bike tonight on ebay, hoping it's not some weird scam...

huffman 01-16-04 06:11 AM

The latest buyer scam is to send the cashiers check for more than the amount, sometimes hundreds of dollars. The seller sends the product with the "overpayment" to the buyer only to find out later the cashiers check is bogus. They are out the product and the cash.

If your buyer pays by cashiers check / money order, call the bank to confirm it's good before shipping the bike.

Look at his feedback. I would never bid on an item they were selling.

Well either those items a really old, or Ebay's onto them, because those links are to the 'Invalid Item' page.

e-bay routinely routes out these type of scams.
Don't worry, they will be back later this weekend
with a new seller ID.

[COLOR=Red]Checked those item numbers out but it's not available now with ebay. Where you able to get the user id or email address? Thanks for the information. We need to be more aware with this kinds of transaction.

i am trying to sell a frame on craigslist, and i got one of the guys who does the cashier's check thing...holy christ was it complicated. he was all: i'll send the check to you for $2500 (i was selling the bike for $350), you take the money you need, then take $100 for payment for running around, then use the rest to ship it, i will contact my shipper and they will come pick it up at your door.." only a lot less clear, and in broken english. he was also telling me that he had a "client" who could come pick it up or something...after two emails from him, i got one from his "client" detailing the sheme...i finally just wrote him and told him that the bike was sold. even though it's not.

They were valid as of 8:00 p.m pacific on the 15th,seems Ebay rooted them out- There emails are: marolut@aol.com and Cesterin@aol.com, these were the diverted emails from actual listed seller's email. Thought I'd share and apologize for 1st posting and typo errors :)

I was refering to the link I posted. I posted it to demonstrate to others that the guys pulling these scams are pervasive and stupid. However, the link also contains what I would call "racist" overtones. Therefore, I do not endorse the site.

As for how you handled your situation ... good heads up!
