Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Unless your building the frame yourself, or you're working with acustom builder, and you get to pick the tubeset, I wouldn't worry so much about which tubeset, and instead I'd be concerned about how much I liked the particular bike.

In other words, both True Temper OX, or Reynolds 853 are sufficiently strong, and a good builder can make a fine bike out of either.

And by the way I believe Reynolds 853 is a manganese molybdenum alloy, not chrome molybdenum.

And while we're at it, why not Reynolds 953, the rust resistence and bling of stainless would be nice.

^ Doesn't appear to work for us lay folk. Searches of True Temper OX, Reynolds 853, and Tange Prestige didn't bring up relevant hits.

I assume you've got to use some technical description, as opposed to proprietary names.

I think OX platinum and 853 are basically the same. I'd go with 853 just because that is what I have, and cherish it dearly.

953 seems exotically awesome, but unfortunately the price is exotically unawesome. Its more expensive than titanium, and in many cases carbon. It's cool that it doesn't rust, but 853 with some paint is just fine, and the weight savings doesn't seem that dramatic to make the price worthwhile.

ah, some materials will be in there under propretary options. That database is solely material properties, were frame tubing also relies on shape factors to increase strength.
