Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tire choices

I need new tires I am wondering if you all could chime in on your experiences.
I am considering the following tires (clinchers):

Veloflex Black
Veloflex Pave
Vittoria Rubino Pro
Continental Grand Prix

All of these were suggested by my local LBS, but, they sell all of these tires so I am not entirely sure these are all of the choices I should be considering.

thanks in advance.

I've been using Conti GP 3000, GP 4000, and now GP 4000S for several years. I use them for flat protection. I average 1500-2000 miles between flats. Lots of a-holes around here who chuck their beer bottles out the car window so there's lots of glass and other debris on the roads.

Yep, same reason I use them. Friend of mine switched to Pro3 Race for a 157 mile ride from the Contis to improve rolling resistance. After not flatting for months on the Contis he flatted three times (all different locations, two front and one rear) on that ride. He's moving back to the Contis. I'm not saying this is normal or that the Pro3 Race are bad, merely why I ride the Conti GPs.

I've been a Michelin man lately...two pairs of Krylions that were great, and now I'm on a pair of PR2's and they're great so far as well.

Veloflex Black - light, great tire if you're looking for a tubular feel. Low mileage.
Veloflex Pave - Same as the black's
Vittoria Rubino Pro - good and durable - Higher Mileage
Continental Grand Prix - Nice ride, if you're looking at the 4000 S good durability/performance

It all comes down to what you want out of the tires.
