Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Alpine Classic 200km/3,600m up hill

The Alpine Classic is a annual event, held this weekend in Victoria Australia, on the Australia Day long weekend. There aren't many BIG rides in this country (unlike USA), but I believe this is the biggest.
The ride starts in the township of Bright at the base of the Victorian snowfields, goes over Towonga Gap, down to Mt Beauty, then up to Falls Creek. Riders then do a U bolt and follow the same route back to Bright. Then one last climb up Mt Buffalo before returning to Bright. 200km/3,600 metres of climbing, 125miles/11,800f. It is held in Summer so the temperature can change from 35ºC at the base to less than half that at the top of the two big climbs.
This is my first attempt at this event, so I am totally pumped about it. I have done this distance before but with only 2,600 metres of climbing. About 900 riders will tackle the full distance, with another 300 doing various shorter versions.

The things we agree to after a few beers.

CHEERS.

Alright, I am officially jealous. That is something I've been meaning to do for some time, but I just never seem to get the opportunity. Have a good one!
