My first group ride this weekend. A, B, or C?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first group ride this weekend. A, B, or C?

I'm thinking about going on my first group ride this weekend. I just want to see how people who theoretically know what they're doing...uh...do it. So here's my question for when I roll up in my basketball shorts, skateboard helmet (helmet is required and it's the only one I have), and murdered out 95' Trek 1000...What group should I ride in? A, B, or C?

I normally average 19+ mph on 20-30 mile rides...the ride will be around 30 miles, and it says there could be stops. If I average 19 by myself, will I go much faster when drafting in the group? If so, how much faster?

Crap....is there just a sticky somewhere so I can stop bothering you guys with dumb questions?

Draft the fastest group , see how long it takes to get dropped . Next time you will know which group to ride with.

Are you riding 19 stopping at stop signs? That's hard.

No stop signs by me. Just open country roads. I live in a subdivision that was developed in the 70's. 7 miles around without taking side streets. There's only houses in the first half mile, so the rest is nice and open. I usually stick to a 1.6 mile circle though, because the roads just got paved and it's nice and buttery. But no...no stop signs.

Some clubs want you to ride with their intro group the first time you ride with them. This is so you learn how to ride in a group and not cause accidents (pacelines, etc.).

You may want to try that first even though you are much faster than the usual club intro group.

Start with the slow group until you learn to wear bike shorts.

If you are in North Port, FL like your sig says, then I would expect the A group paceline to be at least 23-24 for that short a ride.

Yeah...that's a pretty good idea. I'd hate to cause a big pile up my first time out. But 10-12 mph...dang. I might bring my game boy along to keep me busy.

Nice. I spit out my pizza. I might buy some this weekend just to see if I like diapers under my non-**** shorts.

If you think bike shorts are gay a group ride is not the place for you.

Ride with the C's get adjusted to pace line etiquette. Next week ride with the B's. Do that a couple of weeks. If it's easy for you then try the A's.

There is more to this than just speed.
