Specialized Allez Comp Pics?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Allez Comp Pics?

Hey everyone, I've just put in a deposit for my first road bike: an 08 Specialized Allez Comp. I'm hoping that for my level of riding (avg. 30km/h on my Devinci Stockholm hybrid), it'll be suitable, as my LBS has told me that for an entry level road rider like myself, it's a very good choice to help bring up my fitness level and whatnot.

Anyhow, for those of you who've got the allez comp, could you post pics of your bike? I'm curious to see what kind of setups some of you have .

Kinda like putting a trailer hitch & mud flaps on a Corvette.

Here's one set up that you probably won't be emulating... But, I couldn't resist. It's a 2005 Allez Elite triple (105 9-sp) kitted out for seriously fast commuting. 55 mile days require more than a $300 32# hybrid.

wow...yeah I kind of wonder how I should be commuting to and from school (yep....I'm a poor student); I'm thinking of taking the hybrid for commutes and the Allez for training/races/rides.... I'd love to take the Allez for my ride to school as well, but my school (University of BC) just so happens to have one of the 3 highest bike theft rates in Vancouver (and believe me, Vancouver's bike theft rate is astounding, to say the least).

Theft is definitely a deal-breaker for commuting. I stash my bike in the PBX/server room at the office (I'm the IT manager, it's my space) so I don't worry about it.

(Here in Yee-Haw GA, they mainly steal four-door pickup trucks. What's Bubba gonna do with a bicycle?)

Trouble with that shiny red & white Allez is it looks tempting even to non-cycling thieves. Best bet is to uglify your hybrid & ride it. NYC bike couriers do stuff like wrap the frame in electrical tape... or gaffer's stage tape... to make it look nasty. Get the tires good & muddy. Zip-tie a rusty wire basket to the rear rack, and bungee some old clothes in it. Stuff like that. Use a good U-lock, and just hope for the best.

BTW - You'll enjoy long rides on that Allez. It's fast and plush. Good luck.
