Brake Pads
Its time for some new brake pads. Not sure what kinds to get. Should I go for the $5 set. Or $35 set? I am not sure what makes one brake pad better than another. Also money isn't too much of an issue, as long as I can justify the reason for spending it.
The type of riding I do is very hilly, I am either climbing up a huge hill or rocketing down at 35mph+ and must be able to stop asap when necessary. So good brakes are a must. Thanks in advanced.

Koolstop.

~$10, by far BEST pads out there. Black for regular riding, salmon for wet conditions.

Kool Stop work really well and stop much better than the standard pads, the only issue I have with the tip thats supposed to clean the rims. Because of that tip if you don;t get them toed properly they can F you up. I would recomenended Swiss Stop Green or Yellow, Yellow being if you have carbon rims.

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
Kool Stop. No issues with the plow tip here.
Or Swiss Stop.
Or Swiss Stop.

i'm currently trying the kool stops, salmon on the back and black on the front just because the commuter lbs was out of 2 pairs of salmons. i think they're a little better, yet i believe they're originally meant for mtb. and i had to shave the tip of the front pads to fit my narrow fork.

I do agree the 35 mph even 40 mph is not rocketing at all. Perhaps once the OP gets accustomed to good braking performance and learns good technique he will strive to descend at the double-nickel.
That said, I used Kool-Stop for carbon rims and switched all of those brakes over to SwissStop for better modulation (note I did not say stopping power). Every other bike Kool-Stops work just as well at a fraction of the cost.

Unless you can really feel the difference or have carbon rims I say BS to your SwissStop recommendation. The are 4 times the cost of Kool-Stop and do not last any longer. They have the same need to be toed in like Kool-Stops.

I'm going to get Koolstops when I next need to change pads. I don't "rocket" so I think I'll be fine.

cool stop salmon for sure.. They made my crappy tektro setup stop just as good if not better than my ultegras/ultegra pads.
On that note.. anyone interested in a pair of Dura Ace R55C cartridge refills. NIB..never used. PM me.

I do have carbon rims but even on my alu rims I notice much better bite and modulation with swiss-stops compared to when I used kool-stops, especially the salmon ones. I did over a million feet of ascent last year and and more than half a million so far this year, so I descend a lot, and braking performance is very important to me, and I do notice a big difference.
