Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Tour de France - No bike talk?

Am I the only one that would like to see and hear about the bikes being used during TV coverage of the Tour? It's almost like they go out of the way to never say anything about the bikes. Seems like those watching would like to know how these bikes differ from ours. Is there a reason for this?

There are plenty of websites that do exactly what you are asking the commentators to do.

How much of the coverage are you watching? I've seen them spotlight bikes - just the other day they did a feature on the Specialized bikes that some of the riders were using. I can remember them doing the same for Trek and Cervelo bikes in the past. They usually find time to show off a time trial bike or two as well.

There's been a few tihngs I'd like for them to discuss which seem to get neglected. Having Craig Hummer on the broadcast doesn't help; the guy is a no-op when it comes to cycling.

If the bike company isn't sponsoring the coverage, why would they get air time profiling their machines?

I agree. I wish they covered the TDF like Nascar/Indy Car coverage rather than the style of "60 minutes"...another doping scandal!.......

I don't know about the bikes, but I would definitely like to see more of the Saab commercial...

Well they do cover the bikes, only the ones that run ads on VS. Specialized and Cervelo (no Treks in the Tour this year).
