Post Photos of Your Other Gear Obsession!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Horray for climbing and alpinism! I always love it when cyclist friends ask what else you do and you tell them you like to climb and they reply thinking you mean riding climbing!

Haven't climbed any mountains yet, but moving to the PAC NW should help that soon enough.

Current other activities:
Houston Metro Lacrosse Club:

Traveling to and around China as often as possible, and maintaining my Chinese:

Used to do the Photography thing until Digital hit and took all the fun out of it, so I hung up my Darkroom equipment.

SCUBA and underwater photography. Oddly enough, I don't have any pictures of me except a few camera check shots going down to verify f stop, flash function, etc. Those are usually just a partial face shot taken at arms length!!!

Here's one of me, taken by a friend at Mermet Springs. Cold water, 42F from 60ft on down to 120ft quarry floor

http://www.billallbritten.com is my photo site.

Grouper off Cayman Brac

Night shot of a shrimp at St. Croix

Middling size moray at Maui

Big moray at Bonaire. A funny story (could have been unfunny, those things have mean, septic bite) on this one. My daughter and I were at 40 some odd feet, headed down, this very large moray swam up the reef a few feet in front of me. Seems it had been at a lower depth along the reef, several divers, some with cameras, had chased it (1st rule of underwater photography - don't chase fish, you'll loose) and a diver (physician actually), had grabbed its tail to slow it down for the others with cameras. Right!!! The eel rounded on and snapped at the doc who grabbed it, then started up the reef to get away, glad it wasn't po'd at us.

A desire to be a safer diver was one of the reasons I got back into cycling to drop quite a bit of weight in 2005 to get blood pressure, blood chem, etc., back in line. My daughter has been my most frequent dive buddy; cardiovascular problems at depth are almost invariably deadly to the victim, often lethal or at the very least, very dangerous to the dive buddy who gets into trouble trying to effect a rescue. I wouldn't want to have put her in that terrible position.

We've witnessed the outcome of a diver suffering a heart attack in the water; it's not nice.

I'm still diving; just no new pics. My housing was an inexpensive one, no longer made, and as housings are camera specific, I'd have to update the Olympus 5050z to something current to get a new housing. That's big bucks.
