Gary that is the most amazing transformation that I have seen on these boards... I love it when people who have not seen you in a long time are shocked by your appearance...

Gary, you did a great job. How much is the difference? As for me, I went from 260-183 lb in 5 months. Mostly bike and eating same exact food every day. I bet we weighed in similarly.

Ballooned up to 260 after high school. Got back down to about 215-220 by eating right and cutting out the alcohol
(mostly).
Since I have taken up bicycling I have dropped to about 198. I'm shooting for 180, and then I'll evaluate myself and set another goal.
I need to find a good 'ol fat before picture.
I'm going to hold off on the after picture, because I haven't met my goal yet.

Let's see...I went from 255ish to 156 in abou 1.5 years. I did a common sense diet and started riding. Initially I would ride 10 miles a day then 12. 15 became 25 and so on. I started riding to lose weight never thinking that the bike would take over my life as I knew it.

This was me to. Started out at 204 lbs in January and lost 30 lbs by getting up every morning and going for a 4-6 mile run and adjusting my eating habits. Got my bike in late May and went for my first ride on June 14th. Since then I have managed to drop another 12 lbs down to 162 lbs as of this morning. Everyone asks me what diet I'm on and I tell them I don't diet, I simply exercise more than I used to and have changed the way I eat. I still eat the same things I used to (ice cream, pop tarts, pizze etc...) I just manage the portions and don't go crazy.

Wow, 156lb is light. I am around 180lb and my face is gets too thin. My body is disproportionate though. I have really big muscular legs and *****. So if my proportions were more normal, I'd weigh 15 lbs less. My waist is a 34 but I need to buy 36 for a better fit in the seat. Good for you though.
A buddy thinks running is better and cycling is easy but running limits him due to pain. I tell him to forget it and just ride and exert himeself on the bike. So many people underestimat cycling because when they try it, they don't push themselves enough.

Well, when I started I was 250lbs and now, about 6 months later I'm down to between 185-190. This is the least I've ever weighed in my adult life so I'm pretty stoked about it. I still feel like I need to lose another 30 pounds but if this biking addiction holds and I can make it through the Kansas winter ok, then I can do it.
Before (taken after one of the Presidential debates this past year, I'm on the left, my crazy friend on the right):

After (taken just now with my crappy camera phone):

Yes, that's baby powder and a dog treat. No, I'm not sure why.

Sorry for the big ass pics and crappy quality. I'm off to play some basketball.

2006 was the year i dropped all the weight. it was also my first year of cycling. for me the biggest thing was becoming aware of what i was eating. i became a calorie counting freak. i didnt eat anything without checking the nutritional info. i always knew, at any time, how many calories i had consumed for a day.
heck, i lost 30 pounds before april. meaning, before i really even started cycling that year. i rode over 2500 miles that year. no racing, no intervals, just me enjoying the rides. i did 5 or so centuries and some other organized rides. towards the end of 2006 i did a little running too, somewhere around 300 miles. it was a nice change up.
i have said it a million times, for me it was the calorie counting. as long as i was keeping my diet in check the pounds came off. i tracked them on Fitday.com for the entire year. hope this helps. later.

I'm down 30 since end of April/early May. I don't track calories. I do ride over 100 miles a week. I don't eat 2nd helpings. I do eat fairly healthy stuff. I don't eat big portions. I do my best not to snack. I have ice cream once in a while. Tonight I'm having a shot of whiskey (ok, 2), but don't do that often. I didn't change my diet, just cut back and started riding.
At some point I figure I'll reach equilibrium. Or I'll get tired of depriving myself. I love to eat. And I love to cook. It's not the easiest thing, but it is working.
The odd thing is that every 5 or 10 pounds, I seem to plateau for a while and nothing happens for about 2 weeks. Then I drop the next batch pretty quick. Kinda odd. I'm getting used to it. Maybe I ought to not get on the scale every morning?
Got a lot of riding this weekend. Might cover more than 100 miles between Sat and Sun. Tomorrow I ride with my 6yo son. That's *always* worthwhile.

I did and it worked for me. I learned what did and didn't work and if the scale didn't move for a few day's it made me work that much harder.

Went from 160 lbs with 30% bodyfat
to 155 lbs with 8% bodyfat.
This is not visible at all but I feel a lot better.

I had a lot of up and down-- when I started cycling I was around 185, then fluctuated between high 170's and low 160's. January of 2007 I joined a "biggest loser contest" at the school I teach in. At that point I was back to 177lbs. Did a little nutrition research and ate salty foods and drank a lot of water for a week before the 1st weigh in and came in at 188.5 (and then spent a lot of time in the bathroom peeing out).
Then I dropped to 156lbs by June 1st. Came in 3rd. Summer hit and I got as low as 143 (which was too light, I was starting to look malnourished at 5'7"). I've settled between 148-153- thing is, I've been riding for 11 years and it took getting my eating under control.
I think too many people buy into the notion of "it's ok to pig out because I just did so much riding." I've found its ok to feel a little hungry and cut down on portion size.
The other great thing I figured out is if I eat a bunch of crap at one point during the day, I'll just cut back on a meal later-- like if I have cheesecake or something at work, for dinner I'll hold it to a salad and very small portions of whatever else I was going to eat.
Perhaps the best part of this was while I was dropping all the weight, I was putting my bike on a diet. I lost over 25lbs, the bike lost 2 or 3lbs and now weighs either 12.75lbs or 11.98lbs, depending on which wheelset I use.

No pics, but I went from about 250 when I was 18; just out of highschool, to 185 as of right now (22 years old). Aiming for mid 70's. Hoping I can hold off the holiday binging.
