Did you lose a bunch of weight by cycling? Post your pics here!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

you know, i highly advocate this picture taking for those trying to drop weight. it really can be an eye opener and just possibly the kick in the butt a person needs.

for example:

seeing the results of both the negative and positive are worth a 1000 words.

later.

No offence to aham, he looks good, but I don't see any shapely abs. Unless you are referring to someone else in the tread?

why you got to hate? i got a three pack going on at least.

the first picture is from january 2006. the second is from march 2007. i dropped 70 pounds in 2006 by calorie counting, cycling, and running. in early 2007, just prior to the second picture, i trained for a half marathon. as part of that i worked on my core. two simple core workouts a week done at home. basic stuff like crunches, scissor kicks, plank, push ups, and so on.

having a stronger core has made me a better cyclist for sure. previous nagging back and neck pain issues are all but gone these days. these workouts definetly "tightened" things up.

aug 2006 at 177 lbs

march 2007 at 170 lbs

later.

I lost 100 lb in four years 70 lb of it in the last year biking and better diet. I have no before pics because when you weigh 285 lb you tend to avoid cameras.
I was wondering if anybody else that has lost a lot of weight has had friends ask if you are "OK", worrying that you are sick or something.
congrats to everyone on this thread.....

Its kind of weird the when you start looking the healthiest and happiest you have in decades people start to worry.
The fact that I talk endlessly about each improvement in distance and speed should let them know the weight loss didn't just happen.
Its work, fun work and very addicting.

When I lost my weight, everyone thought I starved myself to death. Now, I take a look around and understand why.

Seriously, when you're a fitter person, the world looks COMPLETELY different. Almost 360 different. It took my family months to understand that I wasn't starving, and that I actually liked my body

When I go to see a doctor now they tend to just smile. I get the feeling that they don't see to many patients that improve very often.
A year ago I was taking insulin 4 times a day now no meds. Most people I talk to didn't think that was possible.

congrats to everyone on this thread.....
Yeah, met my Mom & Stepdad at a hotel where we handed over my 8 year old daughter for a week this summer. Went swimming & my SD thought I was plenty skinny and shouldn't lose any more. Even mentioned that I was bullimic. Considering I've never once purged anything I've eaten (at least not intentionally ) and don't really binge (well maybe every once in a while when there is a big hot fudge brownie sundae in front of me) I'm thinking he mistook that for anorexia. And considering I still have some flab around the middle that needs to go away and I still weigh in at 176 lbs at 5'10", I think he is mistaken there too

It's just perception I guess. They are used to seeing me weigh a lot more. They will just adapt over time.

You lucky buggers, no matter what I do or how much I ride I can never get rid of the little love handles to the side...

I blame genetics

Not that I really worry about it...

I do the core work to strengthen my body and help my back...Not to develop a six pack, since I know there is more to it then that...

June 2006. Note complete lack of torso and tiny spindly legs

September 2006. Note sunken face

January 2007. ~160lbs. Relatively chubby face. You can't see it in the pic but I have a moobs and a bit of a spare tire.

Present day. Much more balanced. Face filled in but not chubby.

Legs not so spindly. Torso present but not excessive...

And even that six-pack if I flex a bit...

Altogether a 45lb difference from highest to lowest and the present day somewhere in the middle

This is a great thread - thank you

DataJunkie, you started at the weight I'm at now (down from 223 a few weeks ago, been riding more since then), and are at my target weight (I want to hit 150 ideally but I'd be thrilled to see 165). Great job!
