Best Economical Road Helmet?
I was searching the forum for opinions on the best economical road helmt & found the thread below, which is a few years old. I thought I would ask the same question now, as I'm currently looking for a new helmet. I'd like to stay around $50, if possible.

What do you guys think of the Rudy Project helmets that are being closed out on ebay?

The "best" is the one that fits u. Target, surprisingly has a good selection, and all there for u to try out.
Snugg fit but never tight, minimal play, ez strap-on/strap-off. Removable/washable pads plus.

for what its worth, i'd think about saving a bit to get something good, I've tried numerous mid level helmets and finally got a sweep-r, should have just bought it in the first place, a good helmet really is much better (in terms of comfort, weight, looks, ventilation).

Here's a link to my take on the Louis Garneau Avant helmet.
https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/447150-review-lg-avant-helmet.html
I like it alot. It's a good helmet for $55 on sale. Much less bulky than the Giro and Bell equivalent helmets in that price range. Even for the normal $70 price, it's still a good helmet.

I really like my Giro "Indicator" helmet that I use for commuting. Looks pretty cool and it's around $40.
Not that much different than my Giro "Atmos" racing helmet. As helmets get more expensive they tend to weigh just a teeny bit less, offer more ventilation, and sometimes have better aesthetics than cheaper helmets - that's basically it.
Get the one that looks best to you in your price range.

i'm a huge fan of the bell solar, especially if you have a larger head (it's "Unisize," but obviously, the foam part has to be big enough to fit large heads. I happen to have a huge noggin, so it fits perfectly).
i actually took a look at higher end models this weekend; actually held them in my hands. looked at the bell sweep R and ghisallo, as well as the giro atmos and ionos. I wasn't really impressed with any of them. weight is about the same, and yes, vents are MUCH larger, but they still have the "mushroom" head effect. the Ionos in particular was wide, to my memory. Also, the Giro helmets looked surprisingly... unpolished. There were rough edges on many of the cutout materials. I know that's nitpicky, but when my 20$ bell solar is smooth, i expect a $120+ helmet to look like it was lovingly polished by beautiful maidens.

^ i'm digging my Bell Solar too...doesn't look that dorky/bulky surprisingly, nicely finished, comfortable enough (don't know how it could be $100 more comfortable, that's for sure). and any helmet would offer good protection, all helmets have to be certified under the same standard to be sold in the US anyways (what standard that is, i don't know...it's pretty confusing if you look it up haha). yeah, the Solar's a steal for $20.

I agree, the Bell Alchera helmet is really nice for the money. Nashbar sometimes has it at $40 to make it an even better deal. I ride with the Ascent R-18 (mostly because I thought it looked decent enough and didn't say Bell or Giro on it) that I also got from Nashbar for $30..it's a little noisy, but I like it.

i had a budget of $150 for a new helmet and i walked out of my LBS with a Bell Slant for about $55. it was the best fitting/feeling helmet to me by far out of all the ones i tried on. moral, go try some on.
