DC Mayor does an endo

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Amen, brother/sister. Apparently he's also advocate for bike-friendly development and city planning also. Pretty great. We need someone like him in Atlanta!

Politicians like this mayor are a positive role model for a society that has gotten increasingly bloated in the past decades.

Does he get police protection 24/7?

How many Mayors need police protection?

I'm pretty sure the mayor of Jacksonville travels about without the Sherrif's office in tow.

I'll gladly pay for his police protection while he's out riding bikes on the roads that I want to ride. It's rare that anyone of responsibility is doing this, and if he's putting in miles on the DC roads, he's more likely to see those roads improved for cyclists. Now if someone of authority would do that in Fairfax county, maybe with all the friggin road work going on out there they'd put a shoulder more than 3 inches wide on roads.

He couldn't get past trying to school me on how foolish my politics were, and I couldn't get past thinking he was an idealistic sucker for Republican rhetoric, so we didn't last long

They're libertarian views, not liberal.

Less government on both social and economic issues.

I couldn't say for sure but I'll bet you'd see a 24hr police presence around a number of big city mayors and even some of smaller cities that have high crime rates (I read a story about the Mayor of Newark that seemed to imply he had an around the clock detail). You know what? I have no problem with this. Mayors have to make day to day operational decisions that are likely to tick off any number of whackos some of whom may be crazy enough to try something stupid.

His family is also the owner of a running store so he comes from a very fit background.
Was RFK his first crit? I remember him in being in the Cat 5 race that a team mate won.

Yeah! your right, I remember that now. He was gone by the time I got there for the 3/4 race. There was a lot of chit chat about him and his entourage being there.

The higher the profile, the bigger the need. This is common sense. Why is that hard to believe?
